Carson Stays Hot Against Hug
It was the second game of the season for Carson High School's girls varsity basketball team earlier Friday evening in the CHS gymnasium. The Senators took on the Hug Hawks as their second opponents of the year in a match up.
The first quarter brought the usual slow start, but Carson began pulling ahead early going up 6-2 with 3:57 left in the first. Brianna Alverado racked up five points in just a matter of seconds and a couple of lay ups later the Senators cranked up the score to 15-6 at the end of the first quarter.
Alverado stayed hot in second quarter and continued to lead the Senators up to 22-8, but the Hawks finished the half out strong making a decent comeback to 24-15 before the buzzer sounded. The third quarter concluded at 41-26 featuring a pretty even match up between the two parties.
The Hawks kept the pace up in the fourth quarter too, but the Senators pulled ahead too early in the match up to leave a chance for a comeback. The final score of the game read Carson: 59, Hug: 42.
"When we deliver good solid pressure it makes our offense work," said head coach Nathan Tolbert. "We wanted forty points and we pushed well about that. We continued to stay aggressive and when we fell flat and had to settle down we did."
