Galena tops Carson girls soccer on Senior Night
The ladies of Carson High School took on those of Galena on the soccer pitch Tuesday at Carson High School. The night held something more of importance for the seniors of Carson than just a soccer game.
Almost every senior night is the last home game of the regular season for each sport, but in this case they have one more home match against Douglas, and shows signs that it is the beginning of the end. Many of the girls who have played their whole life are now counting down the games they have left in their soccer careers. The Carson squad has seven seniors on the roster including: Teresa Boehmer, Bailie Zuber, Myra Olivares, Chantal Torres, Sierra Scroggins, Karla Reyes-Reza and Lindsay Hettrick.
The game started at the scheduled 7 p.m. Nothing of grave importance happened for some time and it seemed like the entirety of the first half was going to be a stalemate with possession going back and forth with minimal looks at goal from either side.
Finally in the 32nd minute, Carson's goalie got caught out of position and Galena found the back of the net in a lengthy goal from out of the box. After the goal nothing too fascinating occurred in the remainder of the first half and all the way through the 75th minute.
In the 75th the action really started to pick up for both teams and Myra Olivares got a very good look at goal, but it shot off the right goal post. The teams would go back and forth including a couple of very promising stoppage time looks at goal for Carson, but nothing would find the back of the net leaving the game's only goal to Galena with a final score of Carson: 0, Galena: 1.
Head Coach Greg Lehman commented about the close and very competitive game, "We had good moments and good movement, it was really just the final third where we just couldn't seem to find the right combination or be in the right position to finish for goals."
Carson's next game will be this Saturday the 25th at Bishop Manogue High School where they will take on the Miners at 1.
