Catmandu Open House Saturday, September 23
Catmandu is happy to announce an OPEN HOUSE on Saturday, September 23rd from Noon until 4 p.m. to celebrate the re-opening of the facility and show off all the improvements made over the past 3 months. The public is invited to stop by, have a cookie, and see the new and improved Catmandu.
A new roof, new floors, new interior paint, and lots of other changes and improvements were accomplished thanks to a small group of dedicated Catmanduers and volunteers from the community, a couple of local businesses, and donations from supporters and the community.
“It was a huge undertaking and an incredible amount of work, but the place looks amazing,” says Founder and Executive Director Linda Buchanan. “The facility was falling apart around us. The roof was leaking, the floors were crumbling, many of the walls needed work and the paint in many of the areas had literally been scrubbed off the walls. But now, with everything that has been done, we should basically be good to go for the next 10 years.”
There is, however, one big hiccup that will happen sometime before the end of October and will require Catmandu to close for a week or so. The company doing the epoxy floors unfortunately underwent major employee issues that resulted in some shoddy work and a number of big problems with the floors throughout the facility. Fixing them is going to require moving all the furniture out again, sanding, re-coating all the floors, and replacing the entire floor in one room. It is going to be a major hassle, but has to be done. The company is warrantying the work and promises they will be amazing once the repairs are done.
Following the open house, Catmandu will once again be fully open during their regular hours of Friday through Sunday, 11 am to 5 pm. Adoptions close at 4 pm.
“We and the kitties are so thankful to everyone who helped make this happen by volunteering or donating! We couldn’t have done it without you!” says Buchanan.
