September Healthy Communities Coalition meeting includes presentations by Central Lyon Fire and NLS

September 8, 2022 - 9:00am Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties’ September meeting is Thursday, Sept. 8, 2022 at 9am, with an option to attend either in-person or via Zoom.
Those who choose the in-person option can attend at the Silver Springs Community Center’s Lahontan Meeting Room at 2945 Fort Churchill Street, Silver Springs, NV 89429 (the community center is located on the left side of the Silver Springs Senior Center building).
Guest Speakers from Central Lyon Fire and Nevada Legal Services
Central Lyon Fire celebrates its 50-year anniversary in 2022. In recognition of this milestone, Healthy Communities Coalition’s September meeting will provide a venue for conversation and a listening session with Central Lyon Fire Chief Rich Harvey on the challenges and opportunities of the next 50 years.
During the meeting, Chief Harvey will describe Central Lyon Fire’s ballot measure. It proposes solutions to challenges such as the population growth and commercial and industrial development in our communities; the changing demographics impacting volunteer firefighting ranks, and Emergency Medical Services stretched to the limit by the pandemic and a District of some 30,000 people with no definitive care facility (hospital).
Next, David Scheatzle, an attorney with Nevada Legal Services, will describe some of the free services of the non-profit organization providing civil legal aid to low income Nevadans in all counties. Their Pro Bono attorneys offer education on legal issues around housing and eviction, criminal record sealing, estate planning, Indian Legal Issues, immigration, employment, etc.
