Director of Senior Center to speak at Democratic luncheon
The speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Courtney Warner, who has served as Executive Director of the Carson City Senior Center since 2015. In addition to Meals on Wheels and low-cost lunches at the Senior Center's dining room, programs she supervises include educational lectures, fitness and wellness initiatives, and resources for promoting a healthy, independent lifestyle.
Courtney Warner has extensive experience putting quality programs in place that cater to diverse groups of vibrant seniors. Her resume includes senior program development and day-to-day operational experience at a number of prominent residential senior living communities in Seattle.
Courtney completed Bachelor's of Science degree in Kinesiology and Leisure Science from Whittier College in 2005, and a Master's in Sport Administration and Leadership from Seattle University in 2008. Her career began in 2004 as an assistant program director at AbilityFirst, a nonprofit in Pasadena with programs and services to help children and adults with disabilities reach their full potential. This puts the focus on overcoming barriers to service faced by low income individuals who come from diverse cultures or speak languages other than English.
After completing her studies at Whittier College in 2005, Courtney took a job as assistant softball coach at the University of West Georgia. In 2006 she moved to Seattle to take a recreation specialist job at Fircrest Residential Habilitation Center in Shoreline, Washington. In 2007 she was softball coach and and an athletics intern at Edmonds Community College in Lynnwood, Washington. From there she became a program supervisor at the YMCA of Greater Seattle in Bellevue, Washington.
After a return stint as recreation specialist at Fircrest Residential Habilitation Center in 2009, Courtney became activities director at Mirabella Seattle, a large senior residence with opportunities for independent living as well as on-site healthcare, specialized nursing care, and help with activities of daily living. This broad spectrum of services affords residents a continuum of care that adapts as to their changing needs over time.
After leaving Mirabella in 2012, Courtney became lifestyle and resident services director at Seattle's Skyline at First Hill, another large senior residence with independent and assisted living services as well as nursing care and memory care. She worked at Skyline for three and half years before moving on to the Carson City Senior Center in 2015.
This luncheon is scheduled for 1:00 PM on Monday, August 14th, and can either be attended in person at Black Bear Diner, inside Max Casino, or online via Zoom. Courney's presentation will begin after all the lunch orders have been taken, around 1:30. Those wishing to be on distribution for luncheon Zoom links should contact Rich Dunn at richdunn@aol.com.
