Lecture tells of Carson City Mint’s architect and architecture

The U.S. Mint Building in Carson City is one of the city’s most recognizable, enduring and beloved structures. Those adjectives likely would not apply to Alfred B. Mullett, the man who designed the building, now home to the Nevada State Museum, 150 years ago — especially “beloved.”

Carson City man jailed for possession of fake $100 bills, suspected stolen credit cards

A 34-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday for suspicion of multiple felony offenses including possession of counterfeit money and possession of debit and credit cards that did not belong to him, a sheriff's deputy report states.

The Carson City Sheriff's Office investigation division is asking for the public's help in identifying the suspect in an early Monday morning attempted burglary that happened at a Plaza Street automotive shop.

The Carson City School District was a point of highlight at the Nevada Association of School Boards annual conference in Reno, the weekend prior to Thanksgiving. The school district and trustees hauled in nearly a quarter of all the awards (4 out of 19) among the 17 districts statewide.

Carson City area weather: Some fog Monday morning, next storm system late in the week

There's a break ahead from significant storms across Carson City, western Nevada and Sierra, though the fog may return to the valley floors Monday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

Downtown Carson City shines Friday and Saturday with Christmas light

The spirit of the Christmas season was alive in the streets of downtown Carson City on Friday and Saturday nights. The first three photos are of the Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights celebration and were taken by Lynn McCarthy. The final set of photos, taken by Cathleen Allison of Nevada Momentum, are of Saturday night's Holiday Crawl, in support of the Holiday with a Hero campaign. The final photo from FISH is at the Project Empty Bowls event held Saturday at the Carson Mall.

Carson City Christmas Tree lighting has the Capitol sparkling

The Silver and Snowflakes Festival lit up the Capitol building with the annual tree lighting with help from Carson City’s fifth graders.

The grinch stopped by to help conduct, and free carriage rides went on throughout the afternoon and evening starting at 4:30 in front of the Capitol building.

Vehicle crash at Robinson and Stewart, traffic blocked

Two vehicles were involved in a collision just before 3:30 p.m. Friday afternoon. Traffic is blocked and motorists should avoid the area if possible.

Southbound lane blocked near Edmonds and Koontz

As of 1:10 p.m. on Friday, there is an object in the roadway that is creating a hazard in the area of Edmonds and Koontz in the Southbound lane.

Deputies are on their way to resolve the issue.
Motorists should avoid the area or use caution.

Nevada's Vegas Golden Knights to visit Carson City Schools for Hockey Clinics

Nevada's own Vegas Golden Knights will be hosting Hockey Clinics at Schools in Carson City on Friday, Dec. 13, and a Watch Party is scheduled at the Governor’s Mansion to see the Knights Play the Dallas Stars.

Cancer Recovery: Friends of Willow Bill host fundraiser Sunday at Carson City's A to Zen

Observant travelers in Northern Nevada are reporting numerous reindeer sightings along the 85 mile stretch of US 395 between Bordertown, on the north, and Lake Topaz, on the south.

The Willow Reindeer herd now has 3,000 individually crafted works of art. Each reindeer has been signed by the local elementary students that have created it over the past 22 years. With an average of 20 students per class, there have been over 60,000 local children involved in the massive local art project.

Carson City arrests: Woman jailed for allegedly shoplifting more than $400 in merchandise

A 38-year-old Mound House woman was arrested Wednesday, in the 1400 block of South Carson Street, for misdemeanor suspicion petit larceny and gross misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, a Carson City sheriff's report states.

According to the arrest report, deputies responded to a business where a store manager alerted to a woman wearing several coats who had fled the store after stealing several items of merchandise.

Lyon County, Nevada National Guard investigates note threatening Dayton water well

The Lyon County Utilities Department discovered a note Tuesday that threatened the sanctity of a well site in the Dayton water service area. Utilities staff notified the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office and a criminal investigation was initiated, said County Manager Jeff Page.

Thursday events around the capital city include a meeting of the Board of Supervisors, an afternoon hike hosted by Muscle Powered, a meeting with the developer of the proposed Andersen Ranch, a presentation: "Feathers and Furs of the Carson Valley" at the River Fork Ranch, an "End to Prohibition Party" at Gather restaurant, and more.

Carson City awarded historic marker commemorating Women’s Suffrage in Nevada

Carson City was awarded a historic landmark suffrage marker honoring Felice Cohn, a Carson City native who made significant contributions to women’s rights in Nevada. The unveiling of the historic landmark is scheduled for Dec. 10, 2019 at 1 p.m. The landmark will be unveiled in front of the Legislature, adjacent to Carson St. near the crosswalk to McFadden Plaza, previously known as 3rd St.
