No one makes it out of life alive. Sadly, it’s a fact. We all know it. But when celebrities from some of the best times of our lives pass, like today’s passing of Carrie Fisher, we come together with a collective sigh. We are human. Our icons are passing. Gene Wilder, George Michael, Prince, and David Bowie have all passed this year. We are all collectively conscious of the impermanence of life.

Tip-a-Cop fundraiser for Special Olympics set for Wednesday, Jan. 11 at Buffalo Wild Wings

There will be a Tip-a-Cop fundraiser for Carson City Special Olympics on Wednesday, Jan. 11 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Buffalo Wild Wings, 3815 S Carson Street in Carson City. Law enforcement officers from various agencies will be on hand as food servers. Tip-a-Cop proceeds collected will go to Special Olympics Nevada.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help with identifying the suspect or suspects who vandalized several classrooms at Douglas High School on Dec. 21 during the early morning hours.

Western Nevada College automotive students jump start careers, pass ASE exams

Automotive Technology students at Western Nevada College are jump-starting their automotive mechanics careers.
Five of the nine students completing four accelerated classes in automotive mechanics during the fall semester are part of the Jump Start College program.

Carson City health officials: Significant increase in flu cases reported, vaccination encouraged

According to the recent CDC Weekly Influenza Surveillance Report, the number of reported flu cases in the region — Carson City, Douglas and Lyon counties — has shown a significant increase.
