Nevada Day Beard Contest winners 2015

Sean Miller of Carson City took home Best Overall Beard at the annual Nevada Day beard contest Saturday following the parade.

Beard enthusiasts came from all over the state to compete in Carson City's annual tradition where there are 9 different categories. According to competition veterans this is one of the nation's best beard contests.

"I have been to the nationals and Sacramento's beard contest, but Carson City's gets bigger and better every year," said three-time Salt and Pepper division winner, Ken Swiff.

The winners for this year's competition are as follows:

Smoke wafting into Carson City skies from open permit burning and Tahoe controlled fire

A light smoke that began moving into Carson City early Saturday evening may be a result of controlled burn operations on the west shore of Lake Tahoe or open permit burning within the city limits, according to dispatch and the U.S. Forest Service.

USDA Rural Development supports Nevada in 2015 with $177 million in grants

More than $177 million has been invested through the USDA into rural Nevada communities in the past year, assisting more than 700 families in either helping them buy homes or to make improvements to their properties, and investing more than $28 million for community water and sewer system repairs, officials said Friday.

Thanksgiving 26-Salutations

Theresa has always enjoyed and has offered 108 Salutations on New Year’s Day. She is adding 26 – Salutations (to represent Thanksgiving falling on November 26th.

Class will be approximately 1 to 1 ½ hours in length. There will be an incorporation of Regular Sun Salutation, while variations of A and B will be incorporated making it an energetic eclectic class with various added balance, inverted, and challenging poses. While the class winds down into Yin Poses and ending in a few restorative poses.

If you are a beginner come and watch the established jewelry makers and learn, while the amateurs and established jewelry makers can learn new ideas and expand what they already know.

Learn how to make basic earrings and necklaces, while enjoying the company of others.

Carson High School Blue Thunder Marching Band jazz it up at Nevada Day Parade

Led by director Bill Zabelsky, the award-winning Carson High School Blue Thunder Marching Band once again played the standard favorites plus a few surprises, never missing a beat Saturday during the Nevada Day 2015 parade in Carson City. See the video below.
Following in their footsteps were members of Carson Middle School's marching band, soaring with all the right notes.

Nevada Day Parade 2015: One State, Many Cultures celebrated in photos

Only in Nevada does a state throw a party in its capital city and everyone is invited. And so it is with the celebration Saturday of the Silver State's 151st birthday in Carson City.
Nevadans from north, south, east west and central make the annual pilgrimage to the state capital to honor and celebrate statehood which came, Oct. 31, 1864.

PHOTOS: Nevada Day 2015 Classic Run and Walk goes the distance

It was a run and walk through downtown Carson City that can only be done the Silver State way here on this Nevada Day. The all-ages Nevada Day Classic Run and Walk is a way to get the blood pumping before the parade starts.

The event, organized by the Tahoe Mountain Milers running club and its members in cooperation with many sponsors, has supported many community organizations over the years. This year’s event benefits Guide Dogs for the Blind.

Nevada Day tradition dishes pancakes at Governor's Mansion, Masonic lodge and Red's Old 395

A Nevada Day tradition, the annual pancake breakfast at the Governor’s Mansion is hosted by the Carson City Republican Women’s Club. Proceeds go toward scholarships of $1,000 each to two deserving seniors from Carson and Dayton High Schools.
