Carson City Historical Society Presents Teapot Exhibit in July
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Sun, 06/28/2015 - 11:59pmThe Carson City Historical Society is presenting a Teapot Exhibit at the Foreman-Roberts House Museum, 1207 North Carson St., Carson City. The Museum will be open for several days in July for the Exhibit. Paula Cannon has assembled over sixty unique teapots that will be on display. The Museum is located at Admission is free. The Museum and the Teapot Exhibit will be open on the following schedule.
Wed., July 1, 2:00-4:00 p.m. (First day of the Exhibit)
Fri., July 3, 1:00-3:00 p.m.
Sun., July 5, 1:00-3:00 p.m.
Tue., July 7, 1:00-3:00 p.m.
One dies in three-vehicle crash on Highway 395 south of Gardnerville
Submitted by editor on Sun, 06/28/2015 - 8:13pmTwo cars and a truck pulling a travel trailer were involved in a fatal accident at Highway 395 and Leviathan Mine Road at 12:53 p.m. Sunday, resulting in one death and two being transported via helicopter to Renown in Reno.
Carson City and Lake Tahoe area road report through July 5
Submitted by editor on Sun, 06/28/2015 - 6:44pmHere is the Carson City area road report for the week of June 29 through July 5, 2015: Division Street will be closed between Sophia Street and William Street for sidewalk improvements as well as Sophia Street just west of Division Street.
Work will occur from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. each day and detours will be in place. The JAC bus stop on Route 2A on Division Street just south of Sophia Street will be temporarily closed.

Genoa's Sweet Sippin' Sundays

The drinks will be Rum-based, the non-profit recipient will be Carson Valley Arts Council and the entertainment will be "Nigel St. Hubbins". Returning sippers bring your glass and save $2 off of the $12 admission. A completed passport will get you a chance at $100 in Genoa Bucks. More fun contests throughout the day. Outdoors with Don Q: Missing In Action at Pelican, Alaska

Forest Service staffing nine small lightning fires around Lake Tahoe
Submitted by editor on Sun, 06/28/2015 - 12:50pmMost of the fires are single-tree fires with some ground fire, and the largest is only a half-acre in size. Winds are calm, and the Lake Tahoe Basin received substantial rainfall in the area of the fire starts, so the rate of spread is low. The Forest Service is staffing all nine fires with the assistance of Tahoe-Douglas and North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection Districts.
Fire crews extinguish lightning caused fires overnight around Douglas County
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Sun, 06/28/2015 - 11:33amEast Fork Fire Protection District reports that all six fires that were reported Saturday are at 1-acre or less in size and, have been extinguished or have crews on scene mopping up the fires as of Sunday morning. The crews have orders for full extinguishment, said Sgt. Pat Brooks of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.
Concerns are the potential for new fires starts due to the multiple lighting strikes that occurred during Saturday's storm that pushed through the valley.
NV Energy restores most power lost Saturday in Carson City and Douglas County
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Sun, 06/28/2015 - 11:10amNV Energy was able to restore power to much of Carson City and Douglas County overnight, following severe thunderstorms around the region with strikes and surges affecting transformers and stations.
As of 11 this morning there was one outage affecting 8 customers in Carson City and four outages affecting 20 customers in Douglas County. Nearly 12,000 customers were affected Saturday.
Washington Fire containment continues to improve, Highway 4 over Ebbetts Pass opens
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Sun, 06/28/2015 - 10:58amState Highway 4 through Markleeville, south over Ebbetts Pass, is now open for through traffic only. This comes after a day of progress for firefighters battling the Washington Fire in Alpine County. The Bureau of Land Management said that as of 9 a.m. Sunday firefighters had reached 37 percent containment, with the fire burning 17,697 acres.
