Graham's Word: Community Sports and Clubs Provide Outlets to Kids; Reduce Crime and Violence
Submitted by Chris Graham on Thu, 10/24/2013 - 4:07pmWe are hearing so much about bullying these days. Of course it's been around since the dawn of time. I believe the best way to combat bullying is sports/after school activities or clubs.
A lot of the kids that are bullied go straight home and do nothing but think about the bad stuff that happens to them and how they are going to make it stop. It consumes their thoughts.
I was bullied in school, but I never had time to think about any of that because I was involved in sports (baseball, basketball, bowling, soccer)
Carson City patrol officers to be looking for impaired motorists over Nevada holiday weekend
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Thu, 10/24/2013 - 4:00pmThere's been a lot of traffic fatalities in Nevada this year. Some involving alcohol. Some not. So with this weekend bringing tens of thousands of people to Carson City for Nevada Day festivities, motorists should take it easy on the road. If you're going to drink, don't drive. If you're going to drive, don't drink.
On Friday the Carson City Sheriff's Office will do a saturation patrol of city streets. A saturation patrol is where patrol officers will be looking, specifically, for impaired drivers and those driving vehicles with expired plates or broken lights, said Sgt. Scott McDaniel.
