Graham's Word: Community Sports and Clubs Provide Outlets to Kids; Reduce Crime and Violence
We are hearing so much about bullying these days. Of course it's been around since the dawn of time. I believe the best way to combat bullying is sports/after school activities or clubs.
A lot of the kids that are bullied go straight home and do nothing but think about the bad stuff that happens to them and how they are going to make it stop. It consumes their thoughts.
I was bullied in school, but I never had time to think about any of that because I was involved in sports (baseball, basketball, bowling, soccer)
And because of everything I was involved in, I made a ton of friends that I still have in my life today.
What kids need to understand is: Believe it or not, for every one bully, there are ten other kids that want to actually be your friend.
You just gotta get out and get involved in clubs and/or sports. I know that especially in today's economy parents cannot afford to get their kids into sports/clubs. I'd like to start a program that raises funds for underprivileged kids so that they can join in.
Last thing I want to see is a kid looking through the fence at all of the others playing and just wishing they could too.
Instead, with their hands in their pockets they slowly kick a rock and walk away with their head down. That needs to stop.
