Legislative Panel Votes To Seek Bill To Mandate Veterans’ Court In Clark County

CARSON CITY – A legislative panel today voted to request that a bill be drafted and introduced in the 2013 session requiring the Clark County District Court to create a Veterans’ specialty court.

CARSON CITY, NEVADA-Carson City Library and Nevada Legal Services have teamed together to provide free legal education clinics and workshops every 4th Thursday of each month. The next one will be on Thursday, June 28th. Each workshop will provide general instructions and assistance regarding the completion of self-help forms for those who are self-represented litigants. A Notary Public will also be available. The clinic will run from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Following the education clinic a workshop will be held from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm. This month’s topic: How to File a Small Claim Case.

State Workforce Consolidation Plan Gains Support From Northern Nevada Elected Officials

CARSON CITY – Local elected officials representing the Northern Nevada workforce development agency have endorsed a plan to restructure the delivery of job training funds to Nevadans, including eliminating the two local boards now involved in the process.

New features in store for Fremont Elementary School

Fremont Elementary School grounds are currently under construction for a project to create a new and safer traffic pattern, making it easier for parents to drop off their children at school.

The new installations for the school consist of newly reconfigured parking areas to better cope with congestion on nearby roads. A pick-up area specifically designed for the kindergartners is also being installed on the east side of the school.

First-ever Ironman at Lake Tahoe sells out in less than a day

North Lake Tahoe announced Wednesday that the first full-distance IRONMAN® event in California since 2001, IRONMAN Lake Tahoe, sold out its general entries in less than a day. A limited number of IRONMAN Foundation spots are still available. The race is September 22, 2013.

Community Goes to Bat for WNC Softball Player

If she didn't know it before, Melanie Pfeiffer learned on Sunday, June 12, just how warm and caring her community really is.

More than 140 participants were part of a 5-K run/walk/jog fundraiser on behalf of the Western Nevada College softball player who is battling melanoma skin cancer. The event raised $5,000 for Pfeiffer, who is without medical insurance. El Charro Avitia Restaurant in Carson City hosted the race venue and fed the participants afterward.

Crime Log: Carson City man arrested after alleged domestic altercation

Carson City Sheriff's deputies arrested Richard Wayne Broadhead, 30, a Carson City painter, just after 11 p.m. Tuesday. Broadhead was arrested for third-offense domestic battery and assault with a deadly weapon as well as misdemeanor allegations of battery. Bail is set at $31,000 plus administrative fees.

Officers also arrested the following individuals on misdemeanor allegations:

  • A 32-year-old transient man for driving the wrong way.
  • A 24-year-old Carson City man for first-offense domestic battery.
