Carson City to host International Women's Motorcycle Conference in July

Nugget Project ballot question petition submitted to clerk

The people behind the petition effort to force the Carson City Center aka Nugget Project on the ballot submitted 4,559 signatures to the Carson City Clerk-Recorder's office for verification this morning.
The group needs have have 2,935 signatures verified by the clerk to qualify the petition. Day Williams, an attorney who is part of the petitioners' group, said they did their own verification check of the signatures against the voter rolls and are confident they have more than enough to qualify.
Crime Log: Woman arrested for assault with deadly weapon

A domestic disturbance near Granite Circle and Castle Way early Wednesday morning led to the arrest of a woman for pointing a gun at another person.
Nancy Lopez, 33, of Carson City, was arrested for felony assault with a deadly weapon and misdemeanor domestic battery. Her bail was set at $23,000 plus court costs.
The person Lopez allegedly pointed the gun at, a 28-year-old Carson City man, was also arrested for gross misdemeanor domestic battery. His bail was set at $5,000.

Two Smith Valley HOSA students National Winners

Smith Valley High School Health Science students Sierra Hunewill and Mikayla DeBusk competed in Orlando, Florida June 21 at the National HOSA Leadership Conference. They traveled with over 125 students from Nevada to compete in health science related academic events. The two girls won the Forensic Science competition at state this year so therefore qualified for nationals. They had to make it to the second round in Florida by being in the top 20 with almost 200 competitors. They then went on to solve a crime scene and to determine the cause and time of death.
New motorcycle event to be possibly held in Virginia City
Submitted by admin on Tue, 06/26/2012 - 1:52pmCARSON CITY -- The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Sierra Front Field Office in Carson City, Nevada is requesting the community's input in the development of an environmental assessment (EA) for a motorcycle event to be held in Virginia City, Storey County, Nev.
The Virginia City Motorcycle Club (Club) has submitted to the BLM a five year Special Recreation Permit (SRP) application for the “Virginia City Grand Prix” event. Comments will be accepted until July 26, 2012.
RGJ: Apple looks at Northern Nevada to invest $1 billion in facilities
Submitted by editor on Tue, 06/26/2012 - 12:31pmThe Reno Gazette-Journal is reporting that Apple is planning on opening a data center east of Sparks and a business and purchasing center in downtown Reno, part of a $1 billion investment the company plans to spend in Northern Nevada over the next 10 years.
The deal includes tax abatements from the city and state, including sales and property tax. The Reno City Council will consider the deal on Wednesday.
Group Representing Nevada Businesses Files Court Challenge To Teacher-Backed Margin Tax

The complaint was filed in Carson City District Court.

Berkley Defends Actions In Preserving Kidney Program, Calls For Comprehensive Immigration Reform

Shelley Berkley defended her efforts to preserve a kidney transplant program in Nevada in 2008, saying she never advocated for anything that was not in the best interests of patients and patient care.
