Outdoors with Don Q: Topaz Lake to open to fishing on New Years Day

This is my annual pre-Christmas reminder that Topaz Lake, located along U.S. 395 at the Nevada-California state line, will open its 2012 fishing season, one half hour before sunrise, on January 1.
If the weather is decent, if you don't have a massive hang-over, if you like to fish and if you don't have anything else planned, this could be a fun way to start the New Year.

Lake Tahoe planning agency committee endorses land regulation rules

Lake Tahoe, CA/NV – The Regional Plan Update Committee of the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency Governing Board made broad strides this month including endorsement of updated policies that would improve how aspects of land coverage and planning procedures are managed in the Tahoe Region.

Northstar celebrates spending $30 million with new lodge, new lift

Northstar California did up things well Tuesday (name change, used to be "at-Tahoe") by officially opening its new multimillion dollar Zephyr lodge at the top of Zephyr lift and a new chairlift, the Promised Land Express. The new quad chair services two new trails. This completes a spending program of $30 million on upgrades, trails and support activities at the Lake Tahoe resort.

It's "big-band jazz times two" when the Mile High Jazz Band presents the ninth annual Mile High-Carson High Jazz Extravaganza, on Tuesday, January 24, 2012, 7:30 p.m., in the Bob Boldrick Theater at the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William Street, Carson City. The event is sponsored by the Mile High Jazz Band Association and the Carson City Band Association to benefit for Carson High Jazz Band programs.
