Texting while driving in Nevada will earn you a fine come Sunday
Submitted by admin on Fri, 12/30/2011 - 11:41amFor those of you who must text while driving, be prepared to pony up a fine starting New Years Day.
Since Oct. 1, Nevada Highway Patrol troopers have been giving out warning for texting while driving, writing up more than 600 warnings in the Reno-Carson City area. But the warnings come to an end on Sunday. This also applies to those who use a cell phone without a hands-free device.
Carson City Board of Supervisors to consider purchasing Bently property
Submitted by admin on Fri, 12/30/2011 - 9:25amThe Carson City Board of Supervisors will consider accepting the recommendation of the Open Space Advisory Committee to purchase 497 acres in Carson River Canyon at their meeting next Thursday.
Part of this property is slated be used for the extension of the V&T Railway.
The board will also consider purchasing eight new vehicles for the Carson City Sheriff's Office.

Tyler Stafford

February 4, 2012 (All day) Enjoy the acoustical sounds of Tyler Stafford, February 4th from 2 – 5pm in the Brewery Arts Center’s Artisans Store. The Reno native has been impressing audiences with his smooth voice and guitar playing talent. Stafford will perform songs from his newly released album “On a String”. The Reno Gazette Journal named it one of the 10 best albums released by area artists this year.
After gaining experience playing open mics around Reno, Stafford became a regular performer at area restaurants and bars. His musical talent, low key stage presence and good looks earned him a large following.
Crime Log: man arrested near Koontz water tower
Submitted by T. Costa on Thu, 12/29/2011 - 1:29pmCarson City Sheriff's deputies arrested Clyde Renville Hawkins Jr., 52, a mechanic from Reno, at around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Hawkins was arrested near the Koontz water tower for a felony burglary warrant out of Reno. He was discovered near the water tower in a parked vehicle, and told officers that he had been working out of Gardnerville and was "chilling out" after work.
Bail was set at $7,500.
Learning to ski on the cheap

All too often the expense seems to drive them away. So the resorts teamed up to offer first-time lessons on the cheap, and most Lake Tahoe mountain resorts are taking part. Freestyle skiing pioneer Wayne Wong to host camp at Diamond Peak on Jan. 7-8

Diamond Peak Ski Resort on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe is the home mountain for a January 7-8, 2012, ski camp hosted by legendary skier Wayne Wong.
The camp begins with an evening “meet and greet” at Village Ski Loft in Incline Village on January 6 and then continues with two full days of on snow instruction at Diamond Peak.

Christmas Tree Recycling
Submitted by admin on Thu, 12/29/2011 - 7:29amCarson City is pleased to once again offer Christmas Tree Recycling in cooperation with Capital Sanitation/Waste Management Inc. As in previous years, Christmas trees can be placed curbside on your regular collection day or taken to one of the drop-off locations. Trees will be chipped in the sprintime and given to local residents to use for mulch in their yards. No flocked trees! This program continues to be a huge success. Carson City would like to thank everyone for their participation. Last year we were able to redirect 28.48 tons of wood waste from our Landfill.
