Jef Bauer named general manager of MontBleu Resort at Lake Tahoe

With a 23-year background in gaming and marketing, Tropicana Entertainment has named Jef Bauer as general manager of MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa at Lake Tahoe.
“Northern Nevada has been a second home to me throughout my career and I’m glad to call South Shore, a destination that I have always loved, my new home,” said Bauer, 45. “I plan to be involved in the community while seizing new opportunities with special events to position MontBleu and South Tahoe as the place to play, dine and game.”
Deep cuts to state budget would hurt agencies and services
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Fri, 10/22/2010 - 1:07amDozens of Nevada’s nonprofit groups, service providers and others met this week in Reno and Las Vegas to consider the looming threat of deep cuts to the state budget cuts which threaten to eliminate or dramatically reduce health care, education, and human services.
Service agency and nonprofit directors from Lyon and Storey counties attended the Monday meeting, hoping for insights on how to plan for the upcoming deep cuts to Nevada’s public education, health and social services that will hit the rural areas especially hard.
Carson City Supervisors approve funding for ice rink
Submitted by admin on Thu, 10/21/2010 - 12:49pmThe Carson City Board of Supervisors today approved $106,255 plus a 5 percent contingency to fund the Arlington Square ice rink for the coming season.
Parks and Recreation Director Roger Moellendorf said they are looking at leasing to own the ice rink equipment this year, thus reducing the cost for future years, and the contingency was requested to account for the additional costs.
The item was originally discussed two weeks ago and postponed because the supervisors preferred the ice rink be funded through redevelopment funds rather than the general fund.
Olive Garden coming to south Carson City

At the Carson City Board of Supervisor meeting going on right now, Office of Business Development Director Joe McCarthy announced that a new Olive Garden restaurant will be going into the Southgate Center on South Carson Street.
Olive Garden has agreed to a land lease, conditioned upon the developer of the shopping center filling the other empty stores. On that point, the new Big Lots store will open next month, and Big 5 Sports will be moving into the other space from their current, smaller location on North Carson Street.

10 arrested in major Northern Nevada drug bust
Submitted by editor on Thu, 10/21/2010 - 12:52amA major drug operation east of Carson City was brought down late Tuesday with 10 arrests, two being juveniles, the Nevada Department of Public Safety reports.
The bust happened at around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday and involved multiple law enforcement agencies that resulted in the execution of four search warrants and 10 arrests and the confiscation of 1502 grams of drugs, including more than three pounds of methamphetamine.

Haunted Weekend

It started with the Carson City Ghost Walk, which has been a tradition for over a decade, and then the Carson Valley got into the act. Shop Carson City First: It's All Here!, an idea spearheaded by the Carson City Chamber of Commerce a few years ago, has taken on a new incarnation, this time using social media as a tool to spread the word about its members and the deals and services they offer.
As advertising budgets tighten, social media outlets like Facebook and Twitter have become a cost-effective means to spread the word to consumers about the latest deals and exclusive offerings in town.
