Each year, the holiday brings an increase of alcohol consumption, resulting in the surge of injuries and fatalities on Nevada’s roadways. With impaired driving and riding a top traffic problem for Nevada, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office is working in conjunction with agencies statewide aligned with Joining Forces to boost enforcement efforts from Dec. 16, 2016 through Jan. 3, 2017.

Carson City emergency crews were called to a vehicle accident Monday morning involving a 13-year-old juvenile male riding a bicycle that happened across from Fremont Elementary School.

Over the next two weeks, residents can expect to see double the normal law enforcement presence around the area. Carson City Sheriff’s Office is Joining Forces with law enforcement agencies statewide to crack down on impaired driving, and has an important message for the public: if you’ll be drinking, designate a sober driver, and if you drive impaired, you will be arrested.

Fire restrictions on public land in Western Nevada, in place since June 30, will be lifted this Friday, Sept. 30, agency managers announced Wednesday. The Carson City Fire Department, however, has no intention at this time of lifting fire restrictions within the city limits.

A 33-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Friday on felony suspicion of third offense domestic battery, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

MASONIC CORNER STONE 150 YEAR REDEDICATION FOR U.S. MINT IN CARSON CITY SEPTEMBER 24, 2016 On September 24, 1866 at 2:00 pm, the Grand Lodge of Nevada, Free and Accepted Masons dedicated the laying of the cornerstone of the original U.S. Mint in Carson City, Nevada. Exactly 150 years later to the day and time, the Grand Lodge of Nevada, Free and Accepted Masons will rededicate that cornerstone at what is now the Nevada State Museum.

UPDATE 9AM: Carson City School District Superintendent Richard Stokes offered condolences on behalf of Carson High School to family members after it was learned a 16-year-old CHS male student was killed in a rollover crash in Goni Canyon early this morning. An adult also died in the accident. The names of the victims have not been released.

A father and daughter team are riding their penny farthing bicycles, also known as “high-wheels” or “ordinaries” across the country. Randy and Amy Oleynik passed through Carson City on Wednesday while re-creating the historic ride of Thomas Stephens, the first person to ride a bicycle across North America in 1884, also done on a penny farthing.

The Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition has launched a multimedia education campaign to promote safe bicycling for Tahoe visitors and residents.

A 35-year-old Carson City man was arrested early Saturday morning in the 100 block of Empire Lane on misdemeanor suspicion of domestic battery and destruction of property, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.

The Rockabilly Riot is jam-packed with activities all over town: the races and booths at Mills Park; a street dance at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar; a tattoo show in the Community Center; a free concert at Gold Dust West; and Burlesque at the Nugget.
