Carson City Sheriff's Office among agencies to participate in Relay for Life

On May 21, 2016, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office will be participating in the American Cancer Society’s “Relay for Life” to be held at Mills Park from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. This year, more than 1.6 million individuals in the United States are expected to hear the words “You have cancer.”

Carson City Relay for Life to host team captain workshop March 19

Are you ready to “Paint your World Purple?” As a Team Captain or a Team Member in the Relay for Life, there are many things one can do to participate and create excitement about the upcoming Relay for Life on May 21. The Carson City Relay committee will hold a “Team Captain Experience” at the Carson City Sheriff’s Department on March 19 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

I’ve always loved Tuesdays and today is a good representation of what the day can offer. National Pancake Day at IHOP means a free short stack; but they are hoping you’ll donate to the Children’s Miracle Network. Jazz and Poetry take over Comma Coffee this evening; the Mile High Jazz Band can be found there every second Tuesday all year long. Get your fro-yo fix at Yogurt Beach and help raise funds for the annual Relay for Life fundraiser. A great panel of women will be at the Dayton Community Center this evening to share their experiences growing up on the Comstock.

There was not a dry eye at Mills Park on Saturday night during the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life Luminaria ceremony.

Saturday afternoon, 17 teams gathered at Mills Park in Carson City with one goal on their minds: to help finish the fight against cancer. The Carson City Relay for Life brought the community together to raise money, awareness and to educate each other on the battle against cancer.

I hope you’re hungry, Carson City. Hungry and adventurous. The annual Chili Cook-off and Craft Fair hits Glen Eagles this weekend, and there will be plenty to sample. If you need something cold to drink, head to 7-ELEVEN for a free small slushee from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. in celebration of Seven Eleven Day. The Farmers Market is always a good bet on Saturday mornings for sampling all the yummy stuff that grows nearby.

Karaoke Thursday night at Jimmy G's Cigar Bar a Relay for Life benefit

Jimmy G's Cigar Bar will host a Karaoke Contest Thursday night with all donations going to Carson City Relay For Life to benefit the American Cancer Society.
The entry is $5 buy-in to the contest with Jimmy G patrons to bet on the winner. Contestants to bring in the most money will be the winner of the event. Jimmy G's Cigar Bar is located at 301 N Carson St. The show starts at 9 p.m.

Carson City Sheriff's Office seeks Relay for Life walkers, runners for team

On Saturday July 11th, 2015, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office will be participating in the American Cancer Society’s “Relay for Life” to be held at Mill’s Park from noon to midnight. Team leaders Chief Sharon Daniels and Deputy Kip Lee who are recovering cancer survivors are looking for additional walkers and runners to join their team during this most worthwhile event.

The 2015 Carson City Relay For Life is scheduled for Saturday, July 11 at Mills Park in Carson City. The event kicks off at noon with featured speakers including Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell, a cancer survivor. Music for the Opening Ceremony will be by The Whiskey Heroes with the Luminary Ceremony featuring Carson City singer Molly Seals beginning at 9 p.m.

The Nevada State Fair is coming to town at the end of the month. A limited number of parking passes are available at City Hall starting today, and discounted all-day carnival ride passes are for sale at the Visitor Center. The four days of fun start July 30. Grab some potato salad, fresh fruit, and an umbrella: scattered thunderstorms are expected for most of the week. I’ll suggest you spend the rainy days in one of Carson City’s many art galleries, instead. The Nevada Artists Association gallery at the Brewery Arts Center, Great Basin Art Gallery on South Curry, or Artsy Fartsy Art Gallery on West Telegraph are always impressive. Check out the Carson City Arts Initiative exhibits at the BRIC and on the second floor of the Courthouse.

Bikes, and cars, and brews: oh my! Downtown Carson is awash in activity on Saturday. Battleborn Brews, Bikes, and Bubbly features the Extreme Motor Officer Training Challenge, vendors, a brewfest, moustache competition and more. The Karson Kruzers are hosting their annual car show at Fuji Park, but will be making their way downtown after it’s over, so there will be plenty of cool cars to admire. Mojo Green takes the stage at 7 p.m. and you can head into the Carson Cigar Company to enjoy Reno’s newest Pink Floyd Tribute Band, Scarlett Moon at 9 p.m.

June is National Soul Food Month, so my suggestion for today is a trip to Sassafras for some New Orleans inspired grub and a great free concert. Songwriter Bryan Hayes will be in house for one night to help promote his new album ‘Farther Down the Line.’ Check out the Official Video for his new Single ‘I Wanna Run.’ The song was written in Mosul, Iraq, and one of Bryan's soldiers, SGT Zach Tucker, is featured in the video.

The last weekend of the month welcomes Battleborn Brews, Bikes, and Bubbly with the Twelve Annual Extreme Motor Officer Training Challenge to downtown. Let's not get ahead of ourselves, though. We still need to survive Monday.
