The U.S. Geological Survey and the University of Nevada, Reno, will study the cause of eutrophication, or increased algae growth, along the nearshore of Lake Tahoe, researchers announced Wednesday.

Supported by California’s Lahontan Regional Water Quality Control Board, the investigation is in response to widespread concerns with water quality and ecological degradation of the lake’s close to shore environment.

A 15-year-old Carson City teenager who ran away from home July 17, Jamie Hardiman, was found Wednesday at around 2 p.m. in Carson City. She was reported to be safe and released to the proper authorities, according to the Carson City Sheriff's Office.

It will be a HUGE mistake by Western Nevada College if they allow the athletic programs to walk. Period. I have kept a low profile in this just mainly to sit back and observe what is going to happen. Now, I’m coming off the sidelines to express my opinion.

The college is doing this to save money and I do sympathize with them in that regard but, they are not looking at what the college AND the city will lose if the programs are gone. The loss of money to the city and college far outweighs the money that would be saved.
