Nevada Cooperative Extension: Improve your odds, prepare for wildfire

May is Nevada Wildfire Awareness month. Each year the Bureau of Land Management, Nevada Division of Forestry, U.S. Forest Service, University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, other program partners and corporate sponsors, work together to educate Nevadans on living with wildfire. Much of western Nevada is a high fire hazard environment, especially in this drought year.

From trike to bike, make safety a longterm family experience

Often times when I respond to vehicle crashes and see the damages and injuries incurred I ask myself if there is not something we could be doing to help reduce the amount of crashes that are occurring especially when it comes to motorcycles.

We have seen an increase in motorcycle crashes recently and one has to ask if the riders were prepared for the road. Not all riders are getting their proper endorsements nor are they taking motorcycle rider courses which are offered throughout the State.

Historic Fourth Ward School Museum exhibit to strike Comstock-era realities of Virginia City

Event Date:
May 1, 2015 (All day)

In the 19th century, the darker side to life in Virginia City was often overlooked; it just wasn’t proper to talk about. Even today when tales are told of Virginia City, its rich Comstock history, wooden boardwalks, mine tours, paranormal activity and even its nationally recognized special events take center stage. The Historic Fourth Ward School Museum & Archives is changing that with its May – Oct. 2015 exhibit, “Every Man Has The Right To Go To Hell In His Own Way.”

What Works: Are you putting your oxygen mask on first?

This article was inspired by an impromptu coaching session I gave Saturday night. Normally, I don’t coach after 5 pm on a weekend. But this very special friend needed my help. She was exhausted, losing her sense of well-being, and looking for a workshop to attend. After I rattled off a few of my favorites, we got to the meat of the problem. Everyone came first but her.
