The Carson City Health Department's inspections this week returned with eight Carson City businesses in violation of health and safety codes. Scores of 0 with no violations translate to full compliance with health department food safety codes.

Gardnerville, Nevada’s only vintage pop-up shop for their 5th Annual Artisans & Antiques Festival. This year’s outdoor festival is Saturday, August 17, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at 1235 Eddy Street in the heart of the Main Street Gardnerville District. The event includes 55+ local vendors featuring a variety of handmade items, vintage furniture and decor. SILVER CITY, Nev. — Children ages 8-12 and their parents can take part in a fun science activity this Tuesday. Jim Barcellos of University Nevada Cooperative Extension leads his popular interactive science activity on Tuesday, July 9 from 10 to noon at the Silver City School House, 385 High Street. The activity is free and all children ages 8-12, with their parents, are invited to attend.

We are getting a new roommate next week — a kitten! We haven’t had a kitten in over 30 years. We have always adopted older cats and lucky for me they didn’t eat my houseplants. However, kittens are like toddlers, always exploring and getting into trouble, so I have to make sure none of our plants can poison a curious kitten.

The Levitt AMP Carson City summer concert series at the Change Companies stage continues this Saturday, July 6 with a double billing featuring a lineup of soul and R&B music and folk pop and rock acts.

Carson City residents Don and Elaine Quilici returned recently from vacationing in Alaska, where they were treated to an airplane ride of a lifetime, touring Denali, the highest point in North America at 20,320 feet and then landing the tour aircraft on Ruth Glacier, which is 3,000 feet thick.

Rivas Mexican Grill, the newest of nine locations total for the Mexican cuisine chain, is currently taking up residence in the vacant La Enchilada standalone restaurant at 557 Saliman Road in Carson City.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE — The sun is out, the snow is melting and now is the time to get out and enjoy summer on your National Forest lands. The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit along with our partner Heavenly Mountain Resort, invites the public to Hike with a Ranger beginning July 12, 2019.
