Grammy winning Zydeco musician to headline Carson City Levitt AMP outdoor concert
The Levitt AMP Carson City summer concert series at the Change Companies stage in Carson City continues this Saturday, July 20 with an award-winning Zydeco music headliner to spice up an already festive night with the Taste of Downtown.
Two-time Grammy winner Terrance Simien and the Zydeco Experience is the headline act at this week's concert, which open with Darabello with the performer Louisa Lopez.
Terrance Simien has created a blend of “New Orleans-funk-reggae-flavored-world-blues-American-zydeco roots music,” that will move an audience to start grooving along to new, innovative sounds grounded in a Creole tradition.
The influence of Simien and his band’s work created the “Best Zydeco or Cajun Music Album” category during the 2007 Grammys, he won that same award during the 2008 Grammy Awards.
Terrance Simien has been the original instrument, the voice, to both express shared human emotions and bring his audiences of a multicultural tour of the world; he has created a blend of “New Orleans-funk-reggae-flavored-world-blues-American-zydeco roots music,” that will move an audience to start grooving along to new, innovative sounds grounded in a Creole tradition.
In 1983, Simien started touring and by age twenty was performing along siege Fats Domino and Sarah Vaugh. The influence of Simien and his band’s work created the “Best Zydeco or Cajun Music Album” category, during the 2007 Grammys, and he won that same award during the 2008 Grammy Awards.
Darabello with the performer Louisa Lopez will be the opening band for Terrance Simien and the Zydeco Experience. Darabello is a duo project based in Reno featuring Joseph Tatum on cello with loop pedal, and Ethan Gray on percussion. Influenced by a variety of styles, Darabello performs a high-powered set of original composition.
