I’m going to apologize right now. I can’t anticipate what this storm system will throw at us, so some of these planned events could get cancelled. One event that is never afraid of Mother Nature is the Downtown Carson City Wine Walk. Come rain, shine, or blizzard, you’ll find can sip, stroll, and discover starting at 1 p.m. Saturday. The Carson Hot Springs aren’t afraid of a little snow, and a special visit from Megan the Mermaid will make the icy hot experience more memorable. Keep reading to see what this slushy weekend has to offer.

SATURDAY:

Stranded skiers rescued, cited after going outside Tahoe resort boundaries

Two skiers who became lost Thursday after skiing out of bounds were rescued, one Thursday night and the other plucked Friday morning by a Blackhawk helicopter from NAS Fallon, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office. Both skiers were wet and cold but otherwise escaped injuries.

Spinone Italiano of Carson City makes it to Westminster Dog Show final, bichon frise Flynn wins top honors

A Spinone Italiano, Adele, owned by Carson City Deputy Director of Emergency Management Stacey Belt, made the cut to the final sporting dogs at the 142nd Westminster Dog Show in New York City on Tuesday. Ultimately, a bichon frise named Flynn was picked “best in show.”

Helicopter Ambulance Subscription Info Meeting

Great news! Did you know that if you have to be flown to Renown via helicopter ambulance that the standard ground ambulance subscription will not cover the helicopter ride? AirMed will be here on Saturday, March 3rd between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at Blaqk Coffee located at 655 US Hwy 50 East, Dayton, NV for an information session.

And even more good news! There will also be an information session in Silver Springs, on March 3rd from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Pizza Factory. We just confirmed it!

Spinoni Italiano show dog Adele of Carson City to compete in Westminster Dog Show

Carson City’s Deputy Director of Emergency Management, Stacey Belt, has a couple of very special Spinoni Italiano dogs. One of them, as Stacey puts it — a bearded Italian girl with bushy eyebrows named Adele, will be competing in the famous Westminster dog show in February.  

Holiday Fire burning in Pine Nuts south of Gardnerville

UPDATE: 1:01PM: The Holiday Fire burning southeast of Gardnerville amidst burn scars of previous fires in the Preacher Mine area is now about 55 acres in size and moving slowly through grass, pinion and juniper, Douglas County has said in a press release Friday.
Access is difficult and resource availability is a challenge, the county said.
Hand crews are on order, while one helicopter from the Nevada Division of Forestry (NDF) will be making water bucket drops on the fire.

As part of a continuing investigation, Washoe County Sheriff’s Office ATAC detectives recently located items they believe to be stolen and are now attempting to locate potential victims.

Carson City emergency crews called to crash on I-580 in north Carson City

Pedestrian struck by vehicle dies, Carson City sheriff's deputies and NHP investigate

An adult male pedestrian was killed Friday morning in a vehicle accident that happened in the area of State and Long streets, according to Carson City emergency personnel on scene.

Two injured at Warms Springs prison in Carson City, Care Flight ordered

UPDATE: 2:45PM: An inmate was taken by Care Flight for a stab wound following a fight at the Correction Center yard at Warm Springs, according to Department of Corrections Public Information Officer Brooke Keast. The injury was non-life threatening. A second inmate was shot with pellets and did not suffer serious injuries and was not transported. No corrections officers were injured.

UPDATE: Carson City Fire Department was called Friday morning to the Warm Springs Correctional Center off of Fifth Street for an incident involving an inmate that was reportedly shot with pellets. Care Flight air ambulances have been ordered.

No one hurt in hard landing at Minden airport

MINDEN, Nev. — A helicopter made a hard landing Sunday afternoon at the Minden-Tahoe Airport, the Federal Aviation Administration reported.

UPDATE 5:34PM: The fire is around 4 to 5 acres and is being doused by a helicopter and fire crews on scene. Forward progress of the fire has been stopped and the area was receiving rain. Carson City Fire Chief Sean Slamon noted firefighters are experience erratic wind behavior but that they also have the upper hand, with about 70 percent containment.
