Pedestrian struck by vehicle dies, Carson City sheriff's deputies and NHP investigate
An adult male pedestrian was killed Friday morning in a vehicle accident that happened in the area of State and Long streets, according to Carson City emergency personnel on scene.
The incident happened shortly before 7:30 a.m. when Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies were called to a vehicle crash involving a pedestrian near the intersection.
When first responders arrived on scene the man was reported to be seriously injured and unresponsive. A Care Flight helicopter was ordered. At around 7:40 a.m. the Care Flight was canceled.
The incident was turned over to sheriff's deputies and Nevada Highway Patrol for investigation and a coroner was called. The victim was an elderly, transient man, confirmed Carson City Sheriff's Detective Sal Acosta. He was struck by a truck and the driver remained on scene. Investigators say sun glare may have been a factor.
Traffic was re-routed away from the crash scene.
