A band of mule deer at the Carson City Courthouse Saturday morning were savvy enough to cross Roop and Musser streets at the designated crosswalks.

Motorists, too, yielded to the four-legged pedestrians.

Shed antler season has begun around the West with one Carson City outdoorsman having found the antlers of a very large buck known locally as the "King of Carson."

I just don’t have it in me to make an Ides of March pun, but I guess I could take a stab at it. There isn’t really anything to be wary of today, so head out with abandon. Band students from all the Carson City schools, elementary on up, will get together this evening for a grand performance. Band-o-Rama will take place in the ‘big’ gymnasium at Carson High; get there early if you want a good seat. A downed power line reported around 10 a.m. Saturday morning in the area of U.S. Highway 50 East and Deer Run Road appears to be related to traffic back-up at the East College Parkway-Fairview Drive signal and a loss of electricity to more than 1,200 customers.

Join us for a 5-mile loop hike on a trail south of Genoa called Fay-Luther. This is a wonderful trail built by the Carson Valley Trails Association winding up the foothills of the western mountains for beautiful views to the east and up the Carson Valley.

Hello fellow anglers, the 2017 California fishing season has closed in Inyo and Mono counties for lakes and streams. Alpine County rivers and streams have also officially closed for the season. With the exception of the East Carson River that flows form Hangman's Bridge to the Nevada state line, this section is open all year with special regulations.

A 25-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Thursday for a misdemeanor warrant out of Douglas County, driving with a license revoked for DUI and failure to yield, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

UPDATE FRIDAY 236PM: The motorcycle rider in Thursday's crash sustained non-life threatening injuries, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol. The matter remains under investigation.

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies were called Thursday afternoon to a crash involving a motorcycle and a pickup in the area of Highway 50 East and Deer Run Road. The driver of the pickup took off running southbound on Deer Run Road.

Hello fellow anglers, you still have time to wet a line in our local area rivers and streams. Nov. 15 is the final day to fish rivers and streams in Alpine County and much of the Sierra. Lake fishing, however, will remain open through the winter season for some but not all Sierra lakes. In a later article, we will discuss the joys of ice fishing.

We’ve got a wine walk weekend coming our way, come rain, snow, or shine. This one could get a little blustery; there’s a storm moving in. I’m just grateful that Mother Nature waited until after the parade and trick-or-treat night to send us some winter.

Meet at the end of Sedge Road off of South Deer Run Road. Closed-toed shoes and water are required. Bring a friend and/or friendly dogs.
