Nevada division for aging, disabled receives nearly $7 million in CARES funding

CARSON CITY — The Aging and Disability Services Division was recently awarded $6,929,262 in grants from the Administration for Community Living as part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act. The funds will help meet the needs of older adults and people with disabilities as communities implement measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Firefighting sheep invade Lakeview, almost make it onto freeway in Carson City

While Lakeview residents in Carson City may be used to deer and the occasional bear, they were in for a new surprise visit from a flock of fire fighting sheep Friday evening.

According to resident Wade Olds, the neighbors believed the shepherd had fallen asleep and his flock ran away, something straight out of a nursery rhyme.

Carson City emergency crews respond to teenager injured in horse riding accident

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies responded Sunday afternoon to Deer Run Road and Sedge Road for a teenager who was injured after falling from a horse.

Responders called to fatal crash near Deer Run and Highway 50 in Carson City

UPDATE SUNDAY: Three vehicles were involved in Saturday afternoon's fatal crash on Highway 50 near Deer Run Road in Carson City. One person died. One suffered minor injuries. The name of the person who died has not been released. The cause of the crash is under investigation, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

A 50-year-old man was arrested early Friday on North Carson Street for possession of methamphetamine, gross misdemeanor possession of a dangerous weapon, three misdemeanors and for felony suspicion of being a habitual criminal, a Carson City sheriff's report states.

At 2:20 p.m. Friday afternoon responders were called to a traffic accident at Deer Run Road and Highway 50 E.

Two vehicles were reported to be involved, with one injury as of 2:21 p.m.

Motorists should use caution in the area.
