CARSON CITY — The Aging and Disability Services Division was recently awarded $6,929,262 in grants from the Administration for Community Living as part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act. The funds will help meet the needs of older adults and people with disabilities as communities implement measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

While Lakeview residents in Carson City may be used to deer and the occasional bear, they were in for a new surprise visit from a flock of fire fighting sheep Friday evening.

According to resident Wade Olds, the neighbors believed the shepherd had fallen asleep and his flock ran away, something straight out of a nursery rhyme.

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies responded Sunday afternoon to Deer Run Road and Sedge Road for a teenager who was injured after falling from a horse.


My gardening clothes stink and I’m a happy woman! I’ve been pruning a Rhus trilobata, commonly called skunkbush sumac. Its name tells the story. CARSON CITY — The Nevada Departments of Transportation and Wildlife and the Nevada Highway Patrol are reminding motorists to drive safely in wildlife-prone areas with the onset of spring animal migration.

A 42-year-old New Jersey man was arrested in the 3400 block of Market Street for five felonies including attempting to obtain money under false pretenses, forgery by uttering a forged instrument, and obtaining and using the person ID of another for an unlawful purpose.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities over the next three days. Restaurants in Carson City will host Valentine’s Day specials on Friday. The Carson City Celtic Music series will be at the Brewery Arts Center on Saturday featuring Fortunate Strangers. The Carson City Trash Mob will set out Saturday, Feb. 15 to clean up the Ambrose Carson River Natural Area. Anyone is welcome to join in the effort, organized by Muscle Powered.

Three were arrested Wednesday by the Carson City Sheriff's Office Special Enforcement Team for suspicion of drug trafficking after a vehicle search at the Department of Parole and Probation led to the discovery of 14.9 grams of methamphetamine.

A mountain lion was spotted Tuesday morning in the hills in northwest Carson City in the Timberline area, prompting wildlife officials to urge residents to be aware and to take steps to avoid any chance of human and cougar contact.

Matt Parent of Carson City and Shawn Dixon of Reno have been friends since high school and both have been avid hunters their entire lives. So when Parent called Dixon to ask him to come look for a particular deer in Carson City last weekend, Dixon was more than happy to drive down.

Carson City emergency crews were called Tuesday evening just before 6 p.m. to a traffic accident in the area of Highway 50, east of Deer Run Road.

The Nevada Highway Patrol has identified a Dayton man as the victim in Saturday's fatal crash involving three vehicles on Highway 50 and Deer Run Road in Carson City.

Grab your mountain bikes and take a ride with a Park Ranger through Carson River Canyon on this exciting volunteer opportunity. On Saturday, Nov. 16, from 1 to 3 p.m., the Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department will be hosting a volunteer trash clean-up in the Carson River Canyon Open Space.

UPDATE SUNDAY: Three vehicles were involved in Saturday afternoon's fatal crash on Highway 50 near Deer Run Road in Carson City. One person died. One suffered minor injuries. The name of the person who died has not been released. The cause of the crash is under investigation, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

First responders were called to a fatal vehicle accident on Highway 50 near Deer Run Road around 3:45 p.m. on Saturday.

A 50-year-old man was arrested early Friday on North Carson Street for possession of methamphetamine, gross misdemeanor possession of a dangerous weapon, three misdemeanors and for felony suspicion of being a habitual criminal, a Carson City sheriff's report states.
