Blue skies and hot temperatures will continue in the Carson City region and western Nevada with the chance of isolated thunderstorms and lightning strikes this weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

The 28th annual American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course is launching a new app that will enable users to follow players live throughout this week, July 11-16.

The National Weather Service in Reno has issued Red Flag fire weather warnings for western Nevada including Carson City and the eastern Sierra which are in effect on both Sunday and Monday.

With clear skies on tap for Carson City and western Nevada Tuesday evening, forecasters have turned their attention to Wednesday and an upper level disturbance that could produce isolated thunderstorms in the region, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a Red Flag fire weather warning for much of the area.

The Nevada Department of Transportation announced that work on State Route 28 shared-used path near Incline Village will be on hold during the Fourth of July extended holiday weekend, Saturday, July 1 through Tuesday, July 4.

Expected gusty afternoon winds and low humidity has prompted the National Weather Service to issue a Red Flag Warning for the Sierra Front, including Carson City, Carson Valley, Lyon County and much of Western Nevada.

After a picture-perfect Memorial Day holiday weekend, weather conditions this week will bring a brief cool down, a slight chance of showers, and then a warm up again in time for the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

Carson City Fire Department and its swift water rescue team were dispatched Sunday afternoon to the area of Golden Eagle for a rescue on the Carson River.

With the three-day weekend ahead, folks headed outdoors can expect a warm up with sunny skies and relatively dry conditions around the Carson City and Lake Tahoe region during the Memorial Day holiday stretch.

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. — This summer’s launch of construction improvements on State Route 28 will begin Monday, May 1 with ongoing work through Oct. 15 on the share-used path, highway safety, accessibility, and water quality enhancements.

A light dusting of snow fell overnight in Carson City as temperatures dropped near freezing in the middle of a low pressure weather system that brought more measurable precipitation to the area, including more snow accumulation at higher elevations.

For Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton areas, the weekend forecast calls for around a 30 percent chance of snow showers Saturday and Sunday, with less than a half inch possible Saturday. Daytime highs will be in the mid to upper 30s in the valleys, and night time lows in the lower 20s.
