Western Nevada weekend weather: Sunny and hot with chance of thunderstorms
Blue skies and hot temperatures will continue in the Carson City region and western Nevada with the chance of isolated thunderstorms and lightning strikes this weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
Isolated to scattered storms are possible across the eastern Sierra and western Nevada for Friday, Saturday and Sunday in the afternoon and evening hours. The thunderstorms could bring outflow winds of 40-50 mph, heavy rainfall, small hail and dangerous lightning.
If out boating this weekend, the weather service advises water enthusiasts to pay attention to the forecast and evacuate the water if a thunderstorm approaches. The main threat the weather service emphasizes is cloud to ground lightning strikes that could spark new wildfires in dry areas of vegetation.
For Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton areas, daytime temperatures will be in the mid 90s through the weekend. At Lake Tahoe where the American Century Championship is being held at Stateline, daytime highs will be in the low to mid 80s through Sunday with a slight chance of thunderstorms on Friday and isolated thunderstorms Saturday and Saturday night.
