Weather Service issues Red Flag Warning for Carson City, much of Western Nevada
Expected gusty afternoon winds and low humidity has prompted the National Weather Service to issue a Red Flag Warning for the Sierra Front, including Carson City, Carson Valley, Lyon County and much of Western Nevada.
The Red Flag Warning is from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. Winds will be from the west-southwest 10 to 20 mph with gusts to 35 mph and humidity 8 to 15 percent.
The combination of gusty winds and low humidity can cause fire to rapidly grow in size and intensity before first responders can contain them.
The weather service urges people to follow local fire restriction and avoid outdoor activities that can cause a spark near dry vegetation, such as yard work, target shooting, or campfires.

Meanwhile, the weather service notes recent average temperatures will fall to below average by Thursday or Friday, with well below average temperature for the weekend in Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton areas.
The weather service forecast calls for mostly sunny and breezy conditions Thursday, with a slight chance of showers Thursday night. Highs will be in the low to mid 70s. Friday and Saturday will be breezy with a chance of showers with daytime highs in the upper 60s. Sunday will be mostly sunny with a high of 64.
