Does Downtown Carson City have a parking problem or an attraction problem?

A number of decisions, coming soon, will have an impact on the desirability of Carson City’s downtown, the city as a visitor and business relocation destination, and ultimately property values. A large faction of citizens, seem to think parking is the issue with the vitality of our downtown. Over the course of this article I’d like to uncover whether that’s really the issue or not, and bring up some important points.

Four individuals, 3 Carson City businesses cited for buying, selling alcohol to minors
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 09/06/2013 - 5:01pmFour individuals and three Carson City businesses were cited this week during an underage alcohol "shoulder tap" operation through the Carson City Sheriff's Office.
The Monday operation is where individuals were asked by an underage "decoy" to purchase alcohol for him or her. The decoy informed those asked that they were underage and could not purchase the alcohol. The decoy was assisted by two Carson City Sheriff’s Office deputies who oversaw the operation, said Sgt. Scott McDaniel.
Attention single female homeowners: Women's council offers home improvement help

Helping Hand signups continue through Sept. 12. To be considered for the program applicants:
— Must be a single female homeowner or senior citizen
— Applicant’s name must appear on the assessor’s role.
— Is to be done at your owned residence.
— Can be completed within 1-2 days or less.
Memorial Run for IHOP victims: 'We brought their spirits back'

Fight at Mills Park sends man to Carson City Jail after victim used pepper spray on him
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 09/06/2013 - 9:20amCarson City sheriff's deputies arrested a 56-year-old transient at Mills Park on Thursday afternoon following a fight in which the man was pepper sprayed by one of the victims.
According to the arrest report, deputies responded to the park for a report of a battery. On arrival officers spoke with the 56-year-old man, described as grossly intoxicated, who stated that he was showing some kids Tae Kwon Do moves when he was pepper sprayed by an unknown male.

Submitted by Jeff Munson on Thu, 09/05/2013 - 2:36pmSouthwest Gas is looking to make a rate adjustment for 2014 that would, if approved by the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada, decrease rates for Northern Nevada customers amounting to about 4 cents in summer and 18 cents in winter.
The Public Utilities Commission will hold a consumer session Wednesday, Sept. 11, to hear public comment regarding the annual rate adjustment application of Southwest Gas. If approved by the commission, the company proposes the rate changes take effect Jan. 1.

This week, I would like to offer a suggestion for taking a 2014 vacation trip beginning in Smithers, British Columbia, traveling to Watson Lake in the Yukon and returning to Smithers.
It will basically replicate the trip we took, after our return to Smithers from staying at the Ookpik Wilderness Lodge. If you are interested and if you have the vacation time, you might want to consider a 2014 Canadian vacation trip.
Carson City to host Sept. 16 town hall meeting

The public is invited to this open meeting to discuss general issues related to Carson City.
Department directors from Finance, Fire, Health and Human Services, Information Technology, Parks and Recreation, Public Works, as well as the Deputy City Manager, City Manager and Sheriff will be on hand to answer questions.
Breezy conditions prompt Red Flag Warning for Carson City area

While the wind is helping push some of the Rim Fire smoke out of Carson City, Carson Valley and Lyon County, it has also created critical fire weather conditions because of the low humidity created, according to the weather service.
Carson City hosts Sept. 12 fire and heavy equipment open house

The Carson City Equipment Open House begins at 5 p.m. at the Fire Training Facility at Station 52, 2400 East College Parkway.
The open house provides an opportunity for the city to demonstrate some of its equipment and functions. It is being hosted by the Carson City fire, parks and public works departments. Drinks and hot dogs will be served at this free event.
Dayton man jailed on robbery charge after stealing bottle of booze, assaulting store security

Donald Lee Davis was arrested in the 170 block of Koontz Lane at 1:05 p.m. with the help of witnesses.
