'Zombies Run for your Life' 5K Fun Run set for Oct. 19 to benefit Salvation Army, FISH

Zombie apocalypse hits Carson City on Saturday, Oct. 19 with "Zombies Run for Your Life" a 5K fun-run, food and toy drive with proceeds to benefit the Salvation Army and F.I.S.H. in helping them get a jump start to their holiday season.

The run will be at Riverview Park in Carson City at end of 5th Street and Marsh Road. The run starts at 10 a.m. and costs $30 up to the day before the race, then $40 the day of the race.

Carson City man faces misdemeanor domestic battery charge

A 21-year-old Carson City man faces a misdemeanor domestic battery charge after allegedly hitting his fiance with a water bottle, pouring water on her and shoving her to the ground.

According to the arrest report, deputies were called to the 1100 block of Woodside Drive at around 8 a.m. regarding a domestic dispute.

A Carson City man faces felony burglary charges after admitting to stealing items from Home Deport on six occasions and exchanging them for gift cards that he would sell to pay for food and rent while maintaining his drug habit.

Michael McDowell, 49, was arrested Tuesday in the 1400 block of Rand Avenue. According to the arrest report, the Carson City Sheriff's Office was advised by a Home Depot security specialist that she was investigating McDowell for stealing items and returning them to the Home Depot at 3185 Market Street in exchange for gift cards.

On August 1st, a new publication called the Carson Quarterly (CQ) was delivered to the Carson City Convention and Visitor’s Bureau. The CQ is the first product presented by the new, downtown business, Agency 36.

Iron Nation Memorial Bike Run through Carson City on Sept. 14

The Iron Nation Annual 911 Memorial Run will be held at the Carson City Harley-Davidson on Sept. 14 beginning at noon.

There will be 1,500 to 1,800 riders doing a loop through downtown Carson City for the event as part of their Memorial Run. Carson City Harley-Davidson will have activities throughout the morning and afternoon.

Air quality shows signs of improvement as firefighters make progress on Rim Fire

Clearing skies through some of the smoke will persist today in Carson City, Carson Valley, Lyon County and Lake Tahoe as the Rim Fire is now 75 percent contained. Cooler temperatures and higher humidity helped firefighters gain on the fire which has now consumed 235,841 acres in the Stanislaus National Forest and Yosemite National Park.

NHP: Carson City man, Cody J. Dobson, dies from injuries in Aug. 10 Lake Tahoe hit and run

Cody J. Dobson, the 31-year-old Carson CIty man who was stuck by a motor vehicle on Highway 50 near Stateline at Lake Tahoe last month, has died. He passed away from injuries on Friday, Aug. 23, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports.

On the morning of Aug. 10, NHP troopers were dispatched to a hit-and-run crash involving a pedestrian who was struck just east of the casino corridor near Lake Parkway in Douglas County, said Trooper Chuck Allen.

Carson City man wanted for felony domestic battery found hiding in attic

A 50-year-old Carson City man, who hid from authorities in an attic, was arrested Sunday and faces a felony domestic battery charge with strangulation. William Elliott was arrested in the 1500 block of Rand at 7:26 p.m.

According to the arrest report officers responded to the Rand address for a report of a man brandishing a gun and possibly domestic battery. Officers spoke with the victim who stated she walked into her home and the locks were changed.

Carson City man jailed for allegedly producing pornography involving a minor

A 28-year-old Carson City man was arrested and faces felony charges involving underage production of pornography.

Ivan Botello was arrested Aug. 30, 7:47 a.m. at a Granite Way address. Bail has been set at $100,000. The arrest was based on a confirmed warrant out of Carson City Justice Court dated Aug. 28.

The arrest warrant alleges the crimes of unlawful use of a minor in producing pornography, a category A felony and unlawful promotion of sexual performance of a minor, also a category A felony.

Carson City Democratic Women's Club Bench Dedication and Memorial Service

Carson City Democratic Women's Club will hold a bench dedication and a memorial service on September 14th at 11 a.m. at Fuji Park's dog park in memory of our fellow members who have passed. We are dedicating the bench to Merle Riggs, Karen Priest, Liz Riseden and Shirley Swafford. There will also be a space on the bench for future passing memebers.

Second annual CASI 5K Fun Run and Walk

The Second annual Carson Animal Services Initiative 5K Fun Run and Walk will be held at Riverview Park at the end of East 5th Street in Carson City on Saturday, Sept. 21.

Check-in time is at 8 a.m. and race start is at 9 a.m. Pre-registration fee is $15 for the first human participant and $10 for each additional family member. Dogs participate free! Day of race fee is $20 for first human participant and $10 for each additional family member.

Lecture: Carson City History in Motion set for Sept. 19

It's Your City: Carla Wilson discusses the upcoming Carson City Senior Follies

This week's guest on It's Your City is Carla Wilson who talks about the Senior Follies, the primary fundraiser for the Carson City Senior Meals programs. Auditions were held in March. There are 35 seniors involved in the production.

Performance dates are Sept. 13-15 at the Carson City Community center's Bob Boldrick Theater. This year's theme is "Around the World in 80 Minutes" and is directed by Wilson. The cost is $10 for seniors (50 and over), $15 for general admission. Children six and under are free.
