Dense Smoke Advisory for Carson City area lifted

Roland Street between Bigelow Drive and Ponderosa Drive.
Bigelow Drive between Roland Street and Appion Way.
Center Drive south of Roland Street.
Silver Sage Drive between Roland Street and Snyder Avenue.
The Silver Sage Drive cul-de-sac south of the freeway alignment.
Smoke forces cancellation of Monday's Interfaith potluck picnic and food drive

Dense smoke advisory through the weekend
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Sat, 08/31/2013 - 10:54amEven with pockets of blue sky today due to a change in air flow, smoke from the Rim Fire near Yosemite will continue to impact Carson City, Carson Valley and Lyon County through the weekend.
Dense smoke advisories continue for much of the Carson City region and into the Sierra. Heavier smoke could return Sunday and Monday, however, due to a more southerly flow of air, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.
The Lodge Assisted Living Community to sponsor SOLEmates Shoe Drive
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 08/30/2013 - 5:52pmThe Lodge Assisted Living Community in Carson City will again sponsor the SOLEmates Shoe drive this fall to help provide athletic shoes to local students. The second annual event, which runs through September, benefits students enrolled in the Carson City School District’s McKinney-Vento/Children in Transition program.
The grant and donation funded program helps to provide shoes, clothing, hygiene products and school supplies to students who lack a fixed living situation. The program helped nearly 600 students last school year and is expected to help the same number or more this year.

Mile High Jazz Band presents 'About Face' jazz and poetry Sept. 10 in Carson City

Each poem will be followed by a related big-band tune. The event will be on Tuesday, Sept. 10, 7:30-9:30 p.m., at Comma Coffee, 312 S. Carson Street, across the street from the state legislature building in Carson City. The event will be held outdoors in the adjacent courtyard, weather permitting. Carson City area casinos see 3 percent decrease in July gaming profits
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 08/30/2013 - 7:37amCarson City area casinos saw a 3 percent decline in gaming profits for the month of July, the Nevada Gaming Control Board reports Friday.
Casinos in Carson City, Gardnerville, Minden and all other areas of Douglas County except Stateline, saw a gaming "win" of $8,435,440 for the month compared to July 2012, which saw a "win" of $8,700,186. The decrease amounts to 3.04 percent.
Casinos at South Shore Lake Tahoe led the Silver State in gaming profits for July. Casinos in Stateline took in $32,371,760 in gaming-related profits or "win" compared to July 2012, a 9.23 percent increase.

Carson City man faces felony failure to appear charge for embezzlement matter

Michael Paul LaClaire, was wanted by Sparks police for charges relating to a felony Class C ($650 to $3,500) embezzlement case, according to the arrest report.

Douglas County authorities search for 21-year-old woman
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Wed, 08/28/2013 - 7:01pmThe Douglas County Sheriff's Office is looking for Kayla Denboer, 21, who was last seen in May and is now considered a missing person. Family members say she may be in the Carson City or Reno areas.
Authorities say Denboer is approximately 5 feet tall, 100 pounds, with hazel eyes and brown hair. She had been staying at Everybody's Inn motel in Reno when family lost contact with her.
Anyone with information regarding Kayla Denboer is urged to call DCSO Investigator Ed Garren at (775) 782-9907.

King St., Carson City. At 7 p.m., Adam Hopkins will teach an intermediate West Coast swing lesson. Social dance is 8-10:30 p.m. Partners are not required. They arrived at 8:00 A.M. both days and their employees donated their own time to doing various park improvements to Korean War Veterans Memorial Park, located at East Fifth Street and Marsh Road.

Using data provided by the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection, Carson City and Douglas County officials continue to monitor the rapid decline in air quality. On Wednesday Douglas County sent a news release stating that overnight pollution levels moved into the "hazardous" classification.
Man jailed after Carson City deputies find 30 Ecstasy pills during traffic stop

Zackery Kluever, age not available, faces charges including possession of controlled substance with intent to sell after officers did an inventory of his vehicle and found 30 MMDA pills in a bottle labeled "Molly," a common street name for the drug, also known as "Ecstasy."

Coach D.J. Whittemore has scheduled the first Wildcat Alumni Game for 11 a.m. Sept. 7 at John L. Harvey Field in Carson City. Fans are invited to watch the nine-inning game for free.
Seven players from WNC’s three National Junior College Athletic Association World Series teams have agreed to participate in the matchup and, so far, Wildcats from seven of Whittemore’s eight previous clubs will participate.
