Carson High Safe and Sober 5K Run/Walk

The Carson High Safe Grad Safe & Sober 5k has become an annual tradition held on the first (or second) weekend of February; this year the race will be held on April 2, 2022.

This 5K run/walk is the biggest fundraiser put on by the Carson High Safe Grad Booster and we rely solely on local businesses to sponsor the 5K as well as donate great raffle prizes for the event.

Carson High School librarian awarded $5K Rotary grant for historical document project

The Carson City School District, on behalf of the Rotary Club of Carson City, is pleased to announce Carson High School’s Librarian Ananda Campbell as the winner of a $5,000 grant to fund a historical documentation project titled The Story of Carson High School. Nearly a half dozen applications from teachers and teams of teachers were received for this competitive grant.

7th Carson City Kiwanis Pancreatic Cancer golf, bench press tourney raises more than $13K

Carson City Kiwanis hosted the 7th Annual Pancreatic Cancer Golf Tournament and Carson City Bench Press Championships at Silver Oak Golf Course Saturday, Sept. 19, 2020. The sold-out event resulted in 140 golfers teeing off and 9 weightlifters bench pressing to raise over $10,000 for Pancreatic Cancer Action Network and over $3,000 for the Marilyn Elaine Scholarship.

Special Olympics Nevada (SONV) is extending the time of its first-ever “Flame of Hope” virtual run and fundraiser.

From now until September 30, SONV is asking the community to support its athletes and programs by registering to walk, run, bike, or swim a 10k, 5k, or the distance of a JR. run.

April employment report grim: Carson City loses 3,800 jobs, Reno 24,500 and Vegas, 214.5K

In April, Carson City lost 3,800 jobs at a rate of 12.4 percent, giving the capital city an unemployment rate of 21.4 percent for the month compared to March’s rate of 7.1 percent and 4 percent in April 2019, according to figures released Wednesday by the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.

Teagan Hansen ran a 16:58 5K Saturday at Rancho San Rafael Park in Reno and easily won the Northern 2A Title. Nick Pietzke of Incline was second 10 seconds behind Hansen.

Sierra Lutheran High School's Andreas Gilson (Junior) ran a personal best 5K in Rocklin, California of 17:55 against a loaded field at the Bella Vista Bronco Invitational on Saturday he finished 31st.

Junior Jacob Tack ran 20:16, good for 91st place, he was followed by Sophomore Aaron Waite who covered the scenic wooded course in 20:55 (105th), and Freshman Flynn Scheibe was 119th in 22:10. In the girls race three young Falcons flew through the rolling course in tight formation.

CARSON CITY — Sierra Lutheran High School's Teagan Hansen continued his undefeated season Senior season on a beautiful cool Saturday morning in Truckee, Calif. Hansen won the 5K race in a time of 17:07, outlasting Zach Sever of Carson who was second in 17:15.

National Honor Society held its induction ceremony Sept. 23 in the CHS Big Gym featuring guest speaker Ryan Costella a 2000 CHS graduate. Costella was an active member of NHS, and this fact influenced his desire to attend college at Villanova University in Philadelphia, PA where he earned degrees in Political Science and English.

Homecoming, first seen in 1911 at the University of Missouri, is a wonderful event celebrated throughout the US at high schools and colleges. Homecoming is more than just a football game, it encompasses multiple celebratory events such as bonfires, tailgate parties, dances, and the crowning of a King and Queen. Fall is in the air in Carson City, and a change in the weather was one more reason for kids and adults alike to get out and celebrate this year’s Disney themed Happiest Homecoming on Earth.
