21st Annual Women's Wellness Week at Tahoe's Granlibakken

As part of Granlibakken’s commitment to health & wellness, the annual Lake Tahoe Women’s Wellness Weekend – a long standing community event previously coordinated by the Tahoe Forest Hospital - will now be hosted by Granlibakken, Nov. 12-13, 2011. The event fuses Eastern tradition with Western practices to offer a balanced weekend interactive clinics on skin screenings, body/muscle testing; inspirational and informative seminars on health, nutrition, aging; recreational activities along with food and wine.

Summer transition to fall at South Lake Tahoe with events beginning Labor Day weekend

Before summer segues to fall, Tahoe South will celebrate a Labor Day last call: an amped-up holiday weekend of non-stop activities on and off the water including a food and wine festival, sternwheeler race, outdoor and showroom concerts and a fireworks extravaganza.

Dayton 5K Race Results Announced

Dayton’s first Healthy Communities Coalition 5K Walk/Run on May 14 attracted 50 contestants, plus 20 volunteers from Stand Tall and Dayton Task Force. The 5K fundraiser for Stand Tall’s youth leadership teams and Dayton Resource Bank resulted in $811 for the two local youth programs.

The event was a fun way for the community to exercise and to join together for two good causes. Organizers Lavurne Jeffreys and Star Erickson said they look forward to making this an annual event.

Dayton will be the place for family-friendly fun this weekend with something for everyone: a morning run in Dayton’s beautiful “outback”, a huge pasta festival, hands-on learning at the River Festival, free immunizations and historical tours.

Dayton 5K Walk/Run On May 14 Benefits Area Students

DAYTON, Nev. — Put on your running shoes and join us for a beautiful morning run in Dayton's "outback" on May 14, starting at 8:30am at the Como Park near Dayton Elementary School. Stand Tall and the Dayton Task Force are co-sponsoring a Healthy Communities Coalition 5K Walk/Run to benefit local students through the Dayton Resource Bank and Stand Tall youth leadership teams.

Safe and Sober Grad 5K Run

The Carson High School Graduation Committee will hold the the Safe and Sober 5K on Saturday, April 9 beginning at 8 a.m., in downtown Carson City at 3rd and Curry Street behind The Firkin & Fox.
The event is sponsored by Kaia Fit. Money raised from the run will be used to provide the Carson High School class of 2011 seniors with an all-night party and a day trip to Discovery Kingdom.

Carson City road report for April 4-10

Here is the Carson City road report for the week of April 4-10:

The following closures will occur on Saturday, April 9, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. for the Safe and Sober Grad 5K Run hosted by Carson High School:

— Curry Street between Second Street and Fourth Street
— Third Street between Carson Street and Curry Street

Clearview Drive is closed between Edmonds Drive and Line Drive for construction on the next phase of the Nevada Department of Transportation freeway project. Detours are marked. The road is expected to reopen by November of 2011.

Runners Help Raise Money for Dayton Children

With 34 people turning out for a good cause, the Dayton Resource Bank raised more than $1,100 during its 5K Run on Oct. 23. One hundred percent of the funds directly benefit Dayton area school children.

Among the participants were Dayton Elementary School Principal Cory Sandburg, Healthy Communities Coalition director Christy McGill, and the entire Freshman Volleyball team of Dayton High School.

Nearly 100 students in Dayton schools have been assisted through the Dayton Resource Bank in the past 2 school years.

5K Walk-Run to benefit Dayton school children

A 5K walk/run will be held in Dayton on Saturday Oct. 23 to raise money for the Dayton Resource Bank. This “bank” is available to all students at our Dayton schools who are in need of resources that cannot be taken care of by their parents or the school.
The “bank” covers anything from class fees to school clothes and shoes. Referrals are accepted from third parties such as coaches, clergy, or school nurses, counselors, and teachers.
