The pilot episode of “Casino Boss,” a TV sitcom filmed this summer in Carson City about the inner workings of a casino starring comedian, actor and Saturday Night Live alum Joe Piscopo will be shown on Charter cable sometime in the near future.
"Casino Boss" was written by Carson Nugget owner Dean DiLullo and is loosely based on the iconic history of the Carson City casino.
Friends for more than 20 years, DiLullo got Piscopo on board to play the casino boss in "Casino Boss," which Piscopo said his character "is a bit of a fish out of water" in Carson City.
"You know in places like Atlantic City, the high rollers are guys in snake skin suits. But here, in the West, they’re more good old boys, cowboy hats and boots and big belt buckles. But they roll just as high. There's more of a saloon culture here,” said the SNL alum during the August filming.
It’s the juxtaposition of that ideal that makes the “Casino Boss” different from other casino-based films and TV shows, he said.
The sitcom pilot features 150 locals who were cast as extras, with filming taking place in August at the casino, located in downtown Carson City.
The Carson Nugget packed the house in November with a public viewing of the sitcom, which DiLullo uses his 33 years in the gaming industry as inspiration for writing the "Casino Boss" script and then seeing it come to fruition with filming of an initial episode.
The premise of the script is “how hard can it be to run a casino” and chronicles every day funny things that happen in the casino.
Local talent comedians Leslie Townsend, Roger Diez, Cameron Crane, Dan Kimm and Sophie Moeller are part of the cast as well as comedians Bob Zany and Kabir Singh. It was filmed at the casino in August.
