Fire Chief: Carson City experiencing localized flooding, sandbags available
Localized flooding is being experienced throughout much of Carson City as a winter storm continues to bring drenching rain to not only western Nevada but the Sierra.
Carson City Fire Chief and Emergency Manager Bob Schreihans notes that minor street flooding, mud and debris have been the result of the arrival of an "Atmospheric River" type storm, which started early this morning in the Sierra and Western Nevada.
Sandbags are available to anyone in need of them. They are located at 3505 Butti Way in the Public Works corporate yard. Bring your own shovel.
For a real-time status map of the flooding situation go to http://carsoncity.maps.arcgis.com/home/index.html.
If you have questions or concerns call 775-887-2355, if you have an emergency dial 911.
Meanwhile, Carson City Parks and Recreation Department says the Arlington Ice Rink is closed due to the storm and damage from the rain.
"Due to heavy rains, flooding, and damage to the rink caused by heavy rains the Arlington Ice Rink will be closed until further notice. Please continue to check in for information on the reopening of the Arlington Ice Rink. Thanks you," according to a Facebook post.
A Flood Advisory and Flood Watch have been issued for Carson City and much of the Sierra extending into tonight.
