Married Dayton Couple identified as two deceased victims in fatal Carson City crash

A married couple from Dayton was identified as the two deceased victims in the crash in Carson City which resulted in multiple injuries according to the Washoe County Medical Examiner.

70-year-old Tana Powell was pronounced dead on the scene.

Her husband Don Powell, 74, was pronounced dead after arriving at Renown Regional Medical Center by CareFlight.

Multiple helicopters and ambulances were called to the scene due to the extensive injuries suffered by victims of the crash.

The driver of the truck that caused the crash after allegedly pulling a large boat far over the capacity of the truck’s capabilities was jailed with multiple charges related to the crash.

RENO — More than 500,000 Nevadans, and 20 million people in the worldwide drill, are already registered to participate in the annual statewide public earthquake drill, the Great Nevada ShakeOut, on Thursday, Oct. 18 at 10:18 a.m.

The list of thank-you notes would be too long, impossible even. Ninety-one people or organizations sent flowers to the hospital. Friends helped feed the dogs. Donations poured in on a GoFundMe account. Neighbors strung a “welcome home” banner across the family’s garage. And even more loved ones, acquaintances or strangers ordered meals, causing the doorbell to ring daily with a new delivery. It was so much food that Cindy Baca didn’t cook for an entire month.

Mike Whitehead of Medic West wears many hats. Paramedic. Educator. Father. On the night of Oct. 1, 2017, he was getting ready to be a teacher. He was training a class of emergency medical technicians and was headed to bed early after prepping a test for the next day’s class.

Then he turned on the TV. As the first reports started hitting the air, Whitehead knew he had to head to work. “Something just kind of hit me strange,” he said.

UPDATE: 10:05PM: Firefighters appear to have gotten the upper hand on the flare-up at the Carson City dump Sunday night. At least one engine was released from the landfill and returned to quarters. Two engines from Station 52 remain committed at the scene and a water tender was en route.

Carson City Fire Department, sheriff's deputies and public works were once again called Sunday evening to the Carson City landfill in the 3600 block of Flint Road for a fire resurfacing after a fire there earlier in the afternoon.

Carson City could see some precipitation in the form of rain showers Monday night into Tuesday with cooler daytime temperatures through most of next week, the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno said.

UPDATE 4:25PM: Firefighters have made progress on the landfill fire, with at least one engine returning to quarters. Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies have also been released from the scene.
