The Carson City Fire Department and public works were called Sunday afternoon to the Carson City landfill off of Flint Drive in East Carson City for another fire at the dump.
The call came into dispatch just after 3 p.m. of a reported fire burning at the landfill, making the latest fire at least the fifth one this year.
The fire was reported by a battalion chief to be a 50 by 50 foot trash fire made up of construction debris. The battalion chief on scene at Sunday's fire declared it to be a working incident, with a large plume of smoke coming from the landfill. No structures are threatened.
In a Nevada Appeal story earlier this month, Carson City Public Works Director Darren Schulz suggested the problem may be the disposal of large batteries.
Central Lyon County Fire District and East Fork Fire Protection District have been called for mutual assistance for coverage of other parts of Carson City as CCFD fights the latest landfill fire.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
We will update this story as more information becomes available.
