Boy pulled from water at the Carson City Aquatic Facility
Carson City paramedics were called Wednesday to the Aquatic Facility on Roop Street after a child was pulled from the water and not breathing, authorities said.
Care Flight transported the 11-year-old boy from Carson-Tahoe Hospital to Renown Medical Center in Reno, according to Sheriff Ken Furlong. The child was taken by ambulance from the aquatic center to the hospital.
At the time the child arrived at the hospital he had a pulse and was breathing on his own, Furlong said.
CPR was administered by an instructor at the aquatic center at the time of the call to dispatch, which received the emergency 911 call at 6:16 p.m. According to Furlong the boy had been in the water and had his head above the water and was holding onto a board when he went underwater.
The boy was pulled out of the water by the instructor and a lifeguard, who were on duty at the time. CPR was administered, Furlong said.
The aquatic center, which has an Olympic-size pool and a parent-toddler pool, has been closed. The accident happened in the large pool, during swim lessons.
The parents of the boy were at the hospital with Furlong and then drove to the Reno hospital. The incident is under investigation by sheriff's office personnel.
