Seniors Eating Well is a free online nutrition class for seniors. The series of nine lessons offered through Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties begins on February 2, 2021 and ends on March 2, 2021.

Students from all four classes recently nominated Carson High School Winterfest candidates for 2021 Winterfest week, Feb. 1-5, where both a King and Queen will be crowned. Jonah Toral, Nathan Parsons, and Bita Jazani were awarded the fifth annual Rosemary Nebesky Memorial Scholarships by the Carson City Symphony Association this month. The scholarship was established by John and Jennifer Webley of Santa Rosa, Calif., in memory Rosemary Nebesky, who loved music, loved children, and had been a friend and board member of the Carson City Symphony Association.

The Carson City School District is pleased to announce Mark Twain Elementary School will resume in-person instruction with teachers and students beginning next week. Teachers and employees are expected to return Monday, Nov. 9, to conduct remote lessons, and students in specific grade levels and assigned cohorts are expected to return beginning Tuesday, Nov. 10, for in-person learning.

The Carson City Symphony Association announces the fifth annual instrumental music scholarship for Carson City students age 5 to 17. The scholarship was established by a generous gift from Jennifer and John Webley in memory of Rosemary Nebesky, former board member and friend of the Carson City Symphony Association.

CARSON CITY — For years, Western Nevada College and its student body have seen firsthand the energy, spirit and determination demonstrated by Professor Emily Howarth in creating and expanding the college’s Automation and Industrial Technology program and growing the number of career opportunities for her students in manufacturing.

Stacey Giomi, Ward 1 Supervisor, former Fire Chief, and Regional Director of Operations for Rural Programs and Director of Facilities & Emergency Preparedness at Nevada Health Centers, will be the featured speaker at Monday's Carson City Democratic Men's Committee's tele-luncheon. Nevada Health Centers is a state-wide organization that provides medical and dental care to over 50,000 low-income, uninsured, underinsured and geographically isolated residents of Nevada. It is the largest community health center in Nevada, with locations in seven different Nevada counties.

Camp Carson is a decades long summer tradition for school-aged children in the capital city. Every year children can be seen at Mills Park, the Carson City Community Center, the Carson City Aquatic Center, or around town attending various field trips, identifiable by their matching, brightly colored t-shirts.

The Carson City School Board voted Tuesday in favor of the reopening plan proposed by the school district with a 4-3 vote, which includes pushing the starting date to Aug 24, with a few alterations from the original plan.

With ongoing uncertainty about the school year, families are prioritizing more technology in this year's back-to-school budgets to accommodate online and distance learning.

The AYSO Carson City Youth Soccer Region 140 organization is bringing excitement back to the state capitol.

Registration for the upcoming fall season is open for kids ages 3-18. Early bird registration ends July 15 and can be made online or in-person at Yogurt Beach, located at 3228 N. Carson St. in Carson City. In-person registration will be held Wednesday, July 15 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, July 18 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Carson City native Lisa Schuette was elected to the Carson City Board of Supervisors for Ward 4 in the recent primary election, and she took the time to speak about her vision for Carson City and what she hopes to achieve as a Supervisor.

Then, without warning, the horrific death of George Floyd reignited the unresolved wounds of racism, police use of force, and unequal treatment of minorities in this country. The frustrated public demanded answers, change, and resolution, not later but now.
