NewE Network to host roundtable for Carson City area businesses that hire minors
Local companies that hire workers under 18 — or would like to — are invited to attend a Biz Partner Round Table with New Entrepreneur Network (NewE) on Wednesday Sep. 28. The event will take place from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at The Studio at Adams Hub, 177 West Proctor Street in Carson City.
NewE has created a five-week Entrepreneurial Readiness Intensive (ERI) program in partnership with Carson City High. The purpose of the ERI is to help students master entrepreneurial thinking and innovative problem-solving, skills that can be applied to virtually any job.
“The ERI culminates in a Certificate of Entrepreneurial Readiness, designed to let employers know that the student is prepared to proactively contribute to their success,” said Alex Ellison, NewE Executive Envisioner. “Graduates of the ERI are going to be an asset to the business.”
The purpose of the round table is to learn more about the needs of businesses who hire young and first-time workers — or might want to try it for the first time.
“Many businesses aren’t confident about hiring student workers,” observed Ellison. “We’re interested in a frank discussion about what it would take to create more opportunities for student workers.” Businesses who want to better understand what “Entrepreneurial Readiness” is about will have a chance to hear from program graduates, too.
The New Entrepreneur Network (NewE) was established in 2013 through the combined efforts of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada and the Hop & Mae Adams Foundation. The purpose of NewE is to teach young people entrepreneurial thinking, plus life and job readiness skills.
