Carson City area road report for the week of Sept. 5-11: Carson Street downtown to close for paving

Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of Sept. 5-11, 2016. Work will continue on the Downtown Corridor improvement project on Carson Street with paving ahead of schedule. The following roads will be impacted.

— Carson Street will be closed from the south side of Robinson to the north side of 5th Street, Tuesday through Friday, 24 hours a day. Both Robinson and 5th streets will be open to cross traffic.
— Second Street, 4th Street, Musser Street, Proctor Street and Telegraph will all be closed all week as well.
— Second and 4th streets will be closed to the west of Carson Street to Curry.
— Musser, Proctor and Telegraph will be closed both east and west sides of Carson St., from Plaza to Curry.

Days of closures subject to change due to weather issues. Downtown businesses are open during construction. For details regarding traffic impacts, including a road closure, please refer to the material provided in local media outlets or go to carsonproud.com for more information. These sources are updated weekly throughout the duration of the project.

Lane closures on U.S. 395 between Clear Creek Avenue and Snyder Avenue on northbound lanes between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m. There will be no lane closures during the holiday weekend.

Lane closures with traffic controls are at the following locations due to utility/road work:
— Evening lane closures on S. Carson Street between Fairview Drive and Overland Street, Tuesday through Friday, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
— E. Long Street between Roop Street and Marian Avenue, Tuesday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
— Center Drive south of Clear Creek Avenue near Topsy Lane, Tuesday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
— Arrowhead Drive between Goni Road and the Freeway, Tuesday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
— Shouldering work on Arrowhead Drive between Imus Road and Emerson Drive, Tuesday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
— Race Track Road between Bigelow and Schulz Drives, Monday through Friday, for all hours, local traffic only.

Road closures expected at the following locations due to utility/road work. Please follow detours:
— Topsy Lane between Center Drive and U.S. 395, Monday-Sunday, for all hours, local traffic only.

The following is the Sierra and Lake Tahoe area road report from Caltrans for the week of Sept. 4-10, 2016.

State Route 89 (Placer County): Work continues on a $70.1 million project from Tahoma to just north of Granlibakken Road in Tahoe City that is upgrading storm water drainage and treatment systems, adding curb and gutter, resurfacing and realigning the road, adding new left-turn pockets and widening shoulders on an 8-mile stretch of the highway.

Sept. 6-9: State Route 89 (Placer County) from Elizabeth Drive to Timberland Drive: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 8 p.m. Tuesday to 6 a.m. Wednesday, 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Wednesday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday and 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday for roadway excavation and curb and gutter work. Motorists can also expect one-way traffic control from Spruce Avenue to Sequoia Avenue North from 8 p.m. Tuesday to 6 a.m. Wednesday, 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Tuesday through Thursday and 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday through Friday for landscape work.

State Route 89 (El Dorado County): Work continues on a $13 million water quality improvement project from Cascade Road to just north of the Eagle Falls Viaduct over Emerald Bay. The project is constructing new drainage facilities to treat stormwater runoff and repaving a four-mile section of the highway. Completion is expected in summer 2017.

Sept. 7-8: State Route 89 (El Dorado County) from Cascade Road to Upper Emerald Bay Road: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control at various locations from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday for pavement work.

State Route 89 (El Dorado County): Work continues on a $25 million project from the "Y" junction with U.S. Highway 50 in South Lake Tahoe to Cascade Road, north of Camp Richardson. Curb, gutter and sidewalks will be added in the 1.1-mile four-lane section, and the highway will be widened in the two-lane section to Visitor Center Road to provide 4-foot paved shoulders on each side.

Sept. 7-9: State Route 89 (El Dorado County) from 5th Street to West Way: Northbound and southbound motorists can expect the #2 lane closed from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday through Thursday and 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. for shoulder work. Motorists can expect one-way traffic controls from West Way to Cascade Road from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday and 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday for shoulder work. Motorists also can expect one-way traffic controls from Camp Richardson Road to Jameson Beach Road from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Tuesday through Friday for shoulder work.

State Route 28 (Placer County): Work continues on Placer County’s $50 million Kings Beach Commercial Core Improvement Project from State Route 267 to Chipmunk Street. Highway work includes installing curb and gutter, sidewalks, roundabouts, lighting and drainage systems to enhance pedestrian and bicycle mobility, improve safety and provide water-quality improvements.

State Route 28 (Placer County) from Beach Avenue to Deer Street: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Tuesday through Friday for utility work. Eastbound motorists also can expect auxiliary lane and shoulder closures from Fox Street to Beaver Street from 7 a.m. to noon Tuesday through Friday for utility work.

State Route 28 (Placer County) from Sierra Terrace Road to Rocky Ridge Road: Motorists can expect one-way traffic controls from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday for paving work.

State Route 28 (Placer County) the junction with State Route 267 to Sahara Drive: Motorists can expect auxiliary lane and shoulder closures from 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday for utility work.

State Route 49 (El Dorado County) from Gold Rush Lane to Bacchi Road North: Motorists can expect one-way traffic controls from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday for tree work.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from Bedford Avenue to Canal Street: Westbound motorists can expect the #2 lane closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Tuesday through Saturday for striping work.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) at Schnell School Road: Eastbound motorists can expect the #1 lane closed from 7 p.m. to noon Tuesday through Thursday, 7 p.m. Thursday to 10 a.m. Friday and 8 p.m. Friday to 8 a.m. Saturday for bridge work. Westbound motorists can the #1 lane closed from 5 p.m. to 7 a.m. Tuesday through Saturday for bridge work.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from Strawberry Lodge to Johnson Pass Road: Eastbound and westbound motorists can expect alternating lane closures from 8 p.m. to noon Tuesday through Friday for utility work and from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday for grinding and paving work.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from 4th Street to River Drive in South Lake Tahoe: Eastbound motorists can expect alternating lane closures from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday through Friday for paving work. Westbound motorists can expect alternating lane closures from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday through Friday from Trout Creek to Tulare Avenue/Al Tahoe Boulevard for paving work.

State Route 89 (Placer County) from Twin Crags Drive in Tahoe City to Alpine Meadows Road: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Tuesday through Friday for paving work.

State Route 193 (El Dorado County) from the junction with State Route 49 in Cool to Main Street in Georgetown: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control at various locations from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday for utility work.

State Route 267 (Placer County) from the junction with State Route 267 to Martis Creek Lake Road: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday for striping work.

State Route 267 (Placer County) from Northstar Drive to the Ranger Station road: Motorists can expect intermittent one-way traffic control from 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Friday for utility work.

State Route 267 (Placer County) from National Avenue to the junction with State Route 28 in Kings Beach: Motorists can expect shoulder closures at various locations from 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday for utility work.

A 63-year-old housekeeper was arrested Thursday for 14 counts of credit card fraud and other offenses after allegedly stealing a credit card belonging to an 86-year-old patient who family members said was being treated for a stroke at a local care facility, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office detective.

On May 15th, 2024, shortly after midnight, deputies with the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence located on the 600 block of Angela Street in Fernley, Nev., reference a caller who reported that he had murdered his mother. The caller additionally provided that he barricaded himself inside the house, was armed with a rifle, and had planted pipe bombs at the residence.

On a sunny Saturday morning, 100 volunteer participants fanned out across Lake Tahoe’s South Shore to take water quality samples from 34 streams, creeks, ponds, and lakes to monitor the health of the Truckee River watershed and Lake Tahoe as part of the 24th annual Snapshot Day. They were joined by teams doing the same tests simultaneously in other regions of the watershed.

Just before noon on Tuesday a crash with injuries was reported on the I-580 on ramp from N. Carson Street.

According to dispatch there are two vehicles involved, one of which was towing a trailer.

Injuries have been reported and the number two lane is blocked.

Traffic cameras show vehicles are moving slowly but are able to get through to Washoe Valley.

Motorists must use caution in the area.
