2018 Wolf Pack Welcome: Move-in days, events and traffic information for University of Nevada
RENO — With the fall semester officially kicking off Monday, Aug. 27, 2018, the University of Nevada, Reno is set to welcome students back to campus. The first wave of students will arrive Saturday, Aug. 18, when more than 1,700 freshmen students participating in NevadaFIT come to campus.
Many of these students will be moving into the residence halls and, according to University Residential Life and Housing, this move-in day makes up 60 percent of the total student population moving into the residence halls this semester.
The following Thursday, Aug. 23, the residence halls will welcome returning and new students alike. Given the possibility of traffic surrounding the two move-in days, motorists may wish to avoid using North Sierra Street and Virginia Street, from Comstock Drive (to the north) to Ninth Street (to the south) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
MOVE-IN TRAFFIC
All streets around the University will be open to two-way traffic, with the exception the Artemesia Street, a one-way street. University Parking officials do predict campus parking areas to be congested and suggest arriving to campus early to find a parking space and avoid frustration.
With limited parking spaces around the residence halls, parking is available in the West Stadium Parking Complex, once items are unloaded from vehicles. For free parking after unloading, follow the signs to the West Stadium Parking Complex, located on 16th Street, off of North Virginia Street, just north of Lawlor Events Center. A taxi/Uber/Lyft drop-off zone will be available to families. This will be at the turn-off bus lane in front of Church Fine Arts on North Virginia Street.
University officials would like to remind students moving into the residence halls to come prepared with forms completed, to allow extra time for parking and check-in, and to follow move-in maps and directions for as little confusion as possible. Students are encouraged to bring a hand truck or wagon to assist them in moving items into their residence hall.
