Levitt AMP Carson City free concert series features Thee Commons and Whatitdo this Saturday
The Brewery Arts Center continues an unforgettable season of free, family-friendly concerts under the stars in Carson City this Saturday featuring headliner Thee Commons coming fresh from the Coachella music festival and opening act Whatitdo.
Having started out strong with Big Bad VooDoo Daddy, and continuing with awesome music from The Novelists, Athena McIntyre, Guitar Shorty, Grace Hayes, Gene Evaro Jr., Silver, La Misa Negra, Drinking with Clowns and Southern Drawl Band. It’s time again to grab your family, friends and neighbors and head on down to Brewery Arts Center, Carson City's newest community treasure, and enjoy this week’s family-friendly free outdoor concert, Thee Commons.
Sponsored in part by the Mortimer & Mimi Levitt Foundation, a private family foundation that empowers communities to transform neglected public spaces into thriving destinations through the power of free, live music, the Levitt AMP CARSON CITY Music Series presents 10 free, family-friendly concerts to the public currently at Minnesota Street Stage. The series still has a diverse lineup of high caliber talent left to present spanning genres like Reggae, Southern Rock, Cumbia, Bluegrass and much more.
This week’s show begins at 7 p.m. on Saturday, August 5 (but remember to get here early to get a good seat!). We start with local band called Whatitdo. Whatitdo, takes the listener on a funk voyage. It’s a sonic journey through a variety of music and at the same time the music is compulsively danceable.
Headlining this week is Thee Commons. This East LA band unites their myriad influences from psychedelia, cumbia and punk music for a highly energetic, intoxicating live set that is taking the nation by storm. At the same time, the music is compulsively danceable At the same time, the music is compulsively danceable.
“This show will be different than anything else we have had on the Minnesota Street Stage. Thee Commons is really hot right now, coming to us fresh off Coachella and a Levitt Pavilion stage in Los Angeles. The sound is really unique,” said BAC Executive Director Gina Lopez Hill.
Due to overwhelming need, the BAC has created more handicap parking spaces for easy access for our audiences in the weeks to come, Lopez Hill noted.
The concert series continues Saturday August 12th with Reggae royalty Marla Brown, and Moz’ Motley Blues opening. Five-piece electric bluegrass group Dusty Green Bones will take the stage on Aug. 26 with the Cherry Pickers opening. Irish Rockers and Young Dubliners will end the series on Sept. 2.
The public is invited to bring their own picnics, blankets and lawn chairs to the concerts, which will have an open lawn and lot setting. Food trucks, libations and kids activities will be available at each of the shows. Pets on leash are welcomed as well. The Levitt AMP concert series is located at 449 West King Street at the corner of King and Minnesota. Admission is free.
