Carson City and Lake Tahoe area road report for week of August 1-7

Here is the Carson City and Lake Tahoe area road report for the week of August 1-7, 2016: Work will continue on the Downtown Corridor improvement project on Carson Street. The following streets will be impacted this week:
— Spear, Telegraph and Proctor will be closed on the east side to Plaza and on the west side to Curry all week.
— Washington will be closed on the west side to Curry on Wednesday.
— Carson Street will be fully closed between Washington and Musser on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
— Sophia will be closed on the east side to Plaza on Saturday.

Downtown and Third Street businesses are open during construction. For details regarding traffic impacts, please refer to the material provided in local media outlets or go to carsonproud.com for more information. These sources are updated weekly throughout the duration of the project.

Overnight lane closures will take place on S. Carson Street between Fairview Drive and Overland Street Sundays through Fridays from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. One lane in each direction will always remain open, and business access will remain available.

Lane closures with traffic controls are at the following locations due to utility/road work:
— E. Long Street between Roop Street and Marian Avenue, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
— Center Drive south of Clear Creek Avenue near Topsy Lane, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
— Shouldering project on Arrowhead Drive, Monday- through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Road closures expected at the following locations due to utility/road work. Please follow detours:
— Topsy Lane between Center Drive and U.S. 395, Monday-Sunday, for all hours, local traffic only
— Race Track Road and Bigelow Drive south of Snyder Avenue, Monday-Friday, for all hours, local traffic only
— Convair Drive from Arrowhead Drive to Conestoga Drive and at intersection of Boeing Way, Monday-Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
— Goni Road from Boeing Way to Kelvin Road, Monday-Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
— E. Fifth Street loop around the Korean War Memorial, Monday-Sunday, for all hours, parking is available to the south of the park
— Appion Way between California Street and Center Drive, Monday-Sunday, for all hours, residential access only
— Eagle Station Lane between S. Carson Street and the eastern entrance to the JC Penny’s parking lot, the closure starts Monday and will last approximately two weeks. Access points near IHOP and McDonalds will be reopened starting on Wednesday
— Airport Road between Highway 50 and Woodside Drive, Monday-Saturday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Northbound U.S. 395 between Clear Creek Avenue and Snyder Avenue will be reduced from three to two lanes until September 30.

Intermittent lane and ramp closures will also continue on I-580 and Alternate U.S. 395 in Washoe Valley through fall as roadway paving, striping and other improvements are finalized.

Special Event: The intersection of Curry and Telegraph Streets, Curry Street between Musser and Spear Streets, Proctor Street between Carson and Curry Streets, and Telegraph Street between Carson and Nevada Street, Friday August 5.

Highway 50 at Cave Rock: Erosion and rockfall control walls and water quality improvements such as enhanced roadside drainage inlets and sediment filtration systems are going up along U.S. 50 at Lake Tahoe‬ as part of the Cave Rock tunnel extension project. Traffic north of Cave Rock will continue be reduced to one lane in the eastbound direction with short-duration, westbound, one-lane closures to allow for construction of stormwater quality improvements. Motorists can expect some delays.

Beginning on August 1, the entire boat launch Cave Rock facility will be closed until further notice. The closure period will be approximately 30 to 60 days.

The following Caltrans work will be one around Lake Tahoe and Sierra for the week of July 31 through August 6, 2016:

State Route 89 (Placer County): Work continues on a $70.1 million project from Tahoma to just north of Granlibakken Road in Tahoe City that is upgrading storm water drainage and treatment systems, adding curb and gutter, resurfacing and realigning the road, adding new left-turn pockets and widening shoulders on an 8-mile stretch of the highway. Completion is expected by summer 2017.

State Route 89 (Placer County) from Sugar Pine Road to Ward Avenue/Sunnyside Avenue and from Spruce Avenue to Sequoia Avenue North: Motorists can expect one-way traffic controls from 10 p.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday and 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Friday for curb, gutter and drainage work.

State Route 89 (El Dorado County): Work continues on a $13 million water quality improvement project from Cascade Road to just north of the Eagle Falls Viaduct over Emerald Bay. The project is constructing new drainage facilities to treat stormwater runoff and repaving a four-mile section of the highway. Completion is expected in summer 2017.

State Route 89 (El Dorado County) from Cascade Road to Upper Emerald Bay Road: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control at various locations from 1 a.m. to noon Monday through Thursday and 1 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday for shoulder work.

State Route 89 (El Dorado County): Work continues on a $25 million project from the "Y" junction with U.S. Highway 50 in South Lake Tahoe to Cascade Road, north of Camp Richardson. Curb, gutter and sidewalks will be added in the 1.1-mile four-lane section, and the highway will be widened in the two-lane section to Visitor Center Road to provide 4-foot paved shoulders on each side. Drainage systems are also being built and the roadway is being resurfaced. Completion is expected this fall.

State Route 89 (El Dorado County) from 8th Street to West Way: Northbound and southbound motorists can expect alternating lane closures from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday for pavement work. Motorists also can expect one-way traffic control from West Way to Pope Beach Road from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday for curb and gutter work.

State Route 28 (Placer County): Work continues on Placer County’s $50 million Kings Beach Commercial Core Improvement Project from State Route 267 to Chipmunk Street. Highway work includes installing curb and gutter, sidewalks, roundabouts, lighting and drainage systems to enhance pedestrian and bicycle mobility, improve safety and provide water-quality improvements.

State Route 28 (Placer County) from Beach Avenue to Deer Street: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Friday for utility work. Motorists also can expect shoulder closures from Fox Street to Beaver Street from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7 a.m. to noon Friday for utility work.

State Route 49 (El Dorado County) from Diamond Meadows Lane to Tullis Mine Road in Diamond Springs: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday and Tuesday for grinding and paving work.

State Route 49 (El Dorado County) at Coloma Street in Placerville: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Saturday for curb, gutter and sidewalk work.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) at Cameron Park Drive: Eastbound and westbound motorists can expect alternating lane closures from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Friday for paving work.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) at Red Hawk Parkway: Eastbound and westbound motorists can expect alternating lane closures from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Friday for paving work.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) at El Dorado Road: Eastbound and westbound motorists can expect alternating lane closures from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Friday and 7 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday for sign work.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from Bedford Avenue to Canal Street in Placerville: Westbound motorists can expect the #2 lane closed from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Friday and 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday for highway construction.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) at Schnell School Road: Eastbound and westbound motorists can expect the #2 lane closed from 5 p.m. to 10 a.m. Sunday through Wednesday for paving and bridge work.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from 4th Street to River Drive and from Blue Lake Avenue Edgewood Circle in South Lake Tahoe: Eastbound and westbound motorists can expect lane restrictions from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Sunday through Friday for gas line relocation work.

State Route 89 (Placer County) from Oak Street to Trout Street in Homewood: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Friday for bridge work on a bike path extension.

State Route 89 (Placer County) from Twin Crags Drive to Alpine Meadows Road Motorists can expect one-way traffic control at various locations from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Friday for prep work in advance of a grinding and paving project.

State Route 193 (El Dorado County) at Rock Creek Road: Motorists can expect long-term signalized one-way traffic control for emergency repair work.

State Route 193 (El Dorado County) at the South Fork American River/Chili Bar Bridge: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday for bridge work.

State Route 267 (Placer County) from Northstar Drive to Martis Peak Road: Motorists can expect intermittent one-way traffic control from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. Friday for utility work.

Interstate 80 (Placer County) from Brace Road to Magra Road: Work continues on a $36 million project to increase the vertical clearance of nine bridge structures in south Placer County to 16 feet, 6 inches. The vertical clearance will be increased on seven structures by lifting the existing bridge deck and the other two will have the roadway below dug down.

Interstate 80 (Placer County) from Sierra College Boulevard to Newcastle Road: Eastbound and westbound motorists can expect alternating lane closures and on-ramp closures from 10 p.m. to 9 a.m. Sunday through Saturday for bridge and paving work, specifically the Newcastle Road ramps. Motorists also can expect occasional one-way traffic control from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday on the Gilardi, Horseshoe Bar, Penryn, and Newcastle overcrossings for bridge work.

Interstate 80 (Placer County) from Long Ravine underpass to .2 miles east of Magra Road overcrossing: Roadwork begins for the 2.5 year, $50.6 million project to construct at 3 miles of additional ‘truck climbing lane’ and other improvements to primarily eastbound I-80 east of Colfax including widening the Cape Horn undercrossing bridge.

Interstate 80 (Placer County) at the Cape Horn Undercrossing Bridge: Motorists can expect one way traffic controls for around-the-clock alternating lane closures from June 20 throughout the summer for bridge work.

State Route 49 (Sierra County) south of Indian Valley Road: Emergency roadwork will be closing one lane from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. until September 23 for retaining wall construction.

State Route 49 (Sierra County) from Jackson Hole to Yuba Pass Summit: Motorists can expect one way traffic controls for right lane closures from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday August 1-4 for miscellaneous work.

State Route 49 (Sierra County) from Battelle Street to Filippini Road: Motorists can expect a moving one way traffic controls for right lane closure from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday August 1-4 for highway construction.

Interstate 80 – Westbound (Placer County) from the I-80/Hwy 193 interchange to Newcastle Road overcrossing: Motorists can expect alternating lane closures from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Tuesday and Wednesday August 2-3 for striping operations.

Interstate 80 - Eastbound (Placer/Nevada Counties) from the Yuba Gap overcrossing to Kingvale undercrossing: Motorists can expect alternating lane, shoulder and median closures from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday and Tuesday August 1-2 for drainage work.

Interstate 80 - Eastbound (Nevada Counties) from the Placer County line to the Yuba Gap head (80/20 junction): Motorists can expect alternating lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Wednesday August 1-3 for bridge work.

Interstate 80 (Placer County) at the Applegate interchange: Motorists can expect full ramp closure from eastbound I-80 8 a.m. to noon Tuesday, August 2 and full ramp closure from westbound I-80 Noon to 4 p.m. Tuesday August 2 for utility and maintenance work.

Interstate 80 (Placer County) at the Roseville Parkway overhead: Motorists can expect alternating lane closures (as well as right shoulder closures on Roseville Parkway) from 9 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday August 5-6 for bridge inspection.

Interstate 80 (Placer County) at the connector ramps to/from Highway 65: Motorists can expect alternating full ramp closures from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. beginning Sunday night July 31 through 5 a.m. Friday August 5 for striping operations.

State Route 89 (Sierra County) from the Nevada County line to 1.3 miles north: Motorists can expect one way traffic controls from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday August 1-4 for roadway excavation.

State Route 193 (Placer County) from Fowler Road to Rainbow Valley Lane: Motorists can expect around the clock, 24-hour one way traffic control and right shoulder restrictions from 6 a.m. Monday August 1 to 6 a.m. Saturday August 6 for highway construction.

Since creating its Jump Start College more than decade ago, there have never been as many graduates as the Western Nevada College’s Class of 2024 produced.

A 63-year-old housekeeper was arrested Thursday for 14 counts of credit card fraud and other offenses after allegedly stealing a credit card belonging to an 86-year-old patient who family members said was being treated for a stroke at a local care facility, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office detective.

On May 15th, 2024, shortly after midnight, deputies with the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence located on the 600 block of Angela Street in Fernley, Nev., reference a caller who reported that he had murdered his mother. The caller additionally provided that he barricaded himself inside the house, was armed with a rifle, and had planted pipe bombs at the residence.
