Carson City arrests: Man jailed for allegedly dropping pen full of meth at black jack table

A 46-year-old Carson City man was arrested for suspicion of felony possession of a controlled substance after allegedly dropping a pen full of methamphetamine at a casino Sunday night, a sheriff's deputy said.

Earl Derice Jonte was taken into custody after an employee of the casino in the 500 block of North Carson Street called deputies to report a man with a white powdery substance in the casino.

According to the police report, the employee saw Jonte sit down at the black jack table. He was fidgeting in his back pocket, and when he got up to go to a different area of the casino, a pen fell out of his pocket and landed on the seat. The employee picked up the pen and opened it and inside was a baggy containing what appeared to be methamphetamine.

Jonte admitted to deputies that he had purchased methamphetamine earlier in the day for $10 and put it inside the pen, the arrest report states. Bail: $2,500.

In other arrests:
— A 76-year-old Carson City man was arrested on a gross misdemeanor charge of indecent exposure Saturday evening on Winnie Lane. The man had been walking around the area naked from the waist down. Bail: $5,137.

— A Carson City man, Jeremy Coots, 39, was arrested Saturday afternoon in the 1000 block of South Roop Street for suspicion of misdemeanor domestic battery and felony preventing a victim from reporting a crime.

According to the arrest report, the man allegedly charged the victim, took their phone and caused bruising. Bail: $8,000.

— A 22-year-old Dayton woman was arrested Sunday afternoon in the 2100 block of Market Street for suspicion of reckless driving and DUI, drugs, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.

According to the police report, deputies responded to a report of a vehicle that had crashed into a parked car in the parking lot.

The woman told deputies she had driven around the parking lot too fast and lost control of her vehicle before colliding with the parked car. Deputies said she appeared “very amped up,” and was talking very quickly and making exaggerated movements. She also appeared to have slurred speech and red, watery, dilated eyes and large blisters on her tongue.

She failed several field sobriety tests and was taken into custody. The parking lot showed tire marks on the pavement, suggesting a high rate of speed, and the parked car had been pushed forward 30 feet from its parked position. Bail: $1,774.

— A 43-year-old Oakland, Calif., man was arrested early Monday morning in the area of Highway 50 and 395 on suspicion of DUI drugs and speeding 21 mph or more over, both misdemeanors.

According to deputies, after seeing the man’s car speed past at approximately 80 mph in a 50 mph zone, they made contact with the man who admitted to having one beer earlier in the night. He also admitted to having smoked marijuana the night before.

He failed multiple sobriety tests and was taken into custody, the arrest report states. Bail: $1,200.

— A 41-year-old Carson City man was arrested on Adaline Street early Monday morning for suspicion of DUI, failure to maintain a lane, and speeding 1-10 mph over the limit, all misdemeanors.

According to the arrest report, a Carson City sheriff's deputy observed the man failing to maintain a lane and stopped him. The man said he had had three beers at a restaurant in Sparks. The deputy conducted a filed sobriety test and the man showed impairment on all portions, according to the arrest report. Bail: $1,340.

— A 41-year-old transient man was arrested at an East William Street coffee shop for failure to appear warrant after deputies responded to reports of a bleeding and intoxicated man banging on the windows of the coffee shop yelling for someone to call 911.

He had a bloody nose and a small laceration on the bridge of his nose, as well as a small laceration on his toe which was also bleeding, the arrest report states.

Deputies stated he appeared to be heavily intoxicated and under the influence of narcotics. He did not tell them where he received his injuries, but was taken to the hospital where it was learned he had a failure to appear warrant out for his arrest. Bail: $500.

— A 58-year-old transient man was arrested outside an East William Street pharmacy Saturday evening for a contempt of court warrant. Deputies responded to a report of an intoxicated male bleeding from the head.

His preliminary breath test showed a blood alcohol level of .272 percent at the hospital. He received a staple in his head to close the wound and was taken into custody. Bail: $500 cash only.

— A 78-year-old Carson City man was arrested early Sunday morning for misdemeanor DUI near Stewart and William streets.

According to the arrest report, the man had been driving without his headlights on. His preliminary breath test showed a .147 percent blood alcohol level, but was unable to complete most of the field sobriety tests due to a recent knee replacement surgery. He reported to have had “more than I probably should have,” when asked how many alcoholic beverages he had consumed. Bail: $1,137.

— A 34-year-old Cason City man was arrested Saturday evening near East Long Street and Saliman Road for suspicion of DUI, failure to maintain a lane, and failure to signal before a lane change, all misdemeanors. His preliminary breath test taken at the jail showed a blood alcohol level of over twice the legal limit. Bail: $1,356.

— A 62-year-old Carson City woman was arrested on suspicion of felony violating parole and probation Saturday evening. Barbara Jean Larson was taken into custody after deputies patrolled a casino and found Larson gambling, which was in violation of her alternative sentencing conditions. She is being held without bail in lieu of a hearing.

— A 51-year-old transient man was arrested Saturday evening on a warrant for a failure to appear charge after he had gone to the hospital to seek medical treatment. Bail: $500 cash only.

— A 34-year-old Reno man was arrested in the 800 block of East Musser Street on Sunday evening for a warrant of petit larceny, a misdemeanor. Bail: $5,000.

UPDATE THURSDAY: The Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the two people who died Wednesday morning following the two vehicle crash on I-580 in Carson City. They are Alejandra Hernandez Valtierra, 36, and Viola Santoyo Huizar, 48, both of Carson City.

UPDATE 12:42PM: Southbound I-580 in Carson City was opened as of around 11 a.m., said a Nevada State Police spokeswoman, who provided more details of the fatal crash that happened early Wednesday morning.

Both the driver of a car and a truck involved in the crash died. Their names have not been released pending notification of family members. The car, which was going the wrong way — northbound in the southbound lane — struck the truck and caught on fire, according to a NSP preliminary investigation thus far. The vehicle makes are unknown at this time.

A 37-year-old man was arrested for suspicion of obstruction, trespassing and felony sex offender failing to register, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.
