Carson City arrests: Man jailed for domestic battery, says victim crying because she was happy

A 28-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday in the 900 block of Woodside Drive for misdemeanor suspicion of domestic battery.

According to the arrest report, a Carson City City Sheriff's Office deputy was dispatched to an apartment at around 7 p.m. The deputy arrived and knocked on the door and observed a female crying. The victim appeared scared. A deputy observed a male subject behind her and asked both of them to step outside the apartment.

The deputy interviewed both separately. The male subject told the deputy the reason why the woman was crying was because she was happy the couple and their 3 children would be moving to Texas and so he had a few beers and began listening to music from Texas, the report states. He denied he was ever physical.

The deputy spoke with the victim, who stated the man becomes aggressive when he drinks alcohol. The victim said the man threatened to kill her and told her "today is your day." The victim stated she was scared as a knife was on the kitchen counter. Deputies observed the woman had swelling below her eye and learned the man punched her on the left side of her face, the report states.

The man was determined to be the primary aggressor and was arrested for suspicion of domestic battery. He was read his Miranda rights and agreed to speak and continued to provide the same story. Bail: $3,137.

In other arrests:
— A 24-year-old Dayton man was arrested Saturday, 10:33 p.m. in the 500 block of North Carson Street for misdemeanor violation of pre-trial conditions. According to the arrest report, a Carson City Sheriff's Office Special Enforcement Team supervisor was patrolling the area and observed two people attempting to pick up a man off of the grass and sit him up.

The officer arrived and spoke with the man and observed a strong odor of alcohol. He originally told the officer he did not have an ID on him but later produced a wallet, which had his name. It was run through dispatch where it was learned he was on Alternative Sentencing with a condition not to drink. The man provided a preliminary breath test of .150 and was arrested for violation of pre-trial conditions.

— A 29-year-old Washoe Valley man was arrested Sunday, 9:19 a.m. in the area of Highway 50 East and East Nye Lane for misdemeanor failure to appear warrants out of Storey and Washoe counties, as well as driving with expired vehicle registration, not having vehicle insurance and driving on a suspended license for failure to appear. Bail: $2,381.

— A 34-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Saturday, 2:44 p.m. in the 600 block of Airport Road for driving on a suspended license and not having a license plate properly displayed. Bail: $709.

— A 49-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday, 3:29 p.m. in the area of Woodside and Airport Road for failure to register as a convicted felon. The man had a total of five felony arrests with two dispositions. He was convicted of burglary in 2004 and felony domestic battery in November 2001. Bail: $437.

— A male and female, Jeffery Haugen and Vanessa Viridiana Leon, were arrested Saturday, 8:36 p.m. in the 1800 block of North Edmonds for suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, a felony, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to the arrest report, a Carson City Sheriff's Office deputy with the Special Enforcement Team responded to the area of a casino for a report of possible drug activity. Deputies learned that a male and female were in the casino and were making frequent trips out to the parking lot to meet with random people for a brief amount of time.

Deputies arrived and located the female, who is known to SET for drug activity in Carson City. Deputies located the man, also known to SET for drug activity, who attempted to leave when he saw the officers. The man was stopped. He was carrying a black backpack, and is known to carry a knife. As the officer prepared a pat down search, the man tensed up and began looking at a mirror. The officer believed the man might attempt to flee, fight or discard evidence. The man was detained in handcuffs and pat-searched for weapons. The deputy felt two syringes in his front pockets along with a pill container. The man denied the officer consent to search his pocket or bag.

Deputies decided to move the couple outside the casino. The man was read his Miranda warning and said he understood. He continued to refuse consent to search his person or backpack. The woman also declined to a search as well.

Deputies put their property on the sidewalk and deployed a drug-detection canine, Ivo, to conduct an article search around the bags. The dog alerted positive to drug odor on both bags, the arrest report states.

Based on the information and refusal for a consent to search, the deputy applied for a telephonic search warrant, which was approved. Both bags belonging to the male and female were searched. Inside deputies located a glass "tooter" straw with residue, used to inhale drug fumes.

There was also a USB drive, which appeared to store heroin, the report states. There was a black, sticky substance inside the USB drive that resembled and smelled like heroin. The deputy located a eyeglass container in the woman's purse that contained a small amount of methamphetamine, syringes, a meth pipe, Q-tips, and a tourniquet. The two were arrested. Bail for each: $3,637.

— A 32-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Saturday, 3:45 p.m. in the 1400 block of South Carson Street for gross misdemeanor possession of a prescription drug without a prescription and possession of paraphernalia.

According to the arrest report, deputies were dispatched to a store in the area after they were advised that a female was stuffing her purse with items and that she had been in the store for approximately 2 hours.

Deputies arrived and made contact with a store employee who advised security had been watching the female on camera. While in the office, a deputy observed the woman take several items out of her purse and place them back on the shelf.

As a deputy went to make contact with the woman, she was observed running from the store by security. Deputies located the woman and made contact. She agreed to speak. She was asked why she was stuffing her purse with items.

She said she was just trying to get items to later sell because she is having hard time. A deputy asked the woman if he could search her wallet, she consented and admitted it was hers. In the wallet deputies found several empty hypodermic needles, a metal spoon with heroin residue cotton ball and several blue pills wrapped in aluminum foil.

She told the deputy the items were her boyfriend's and she was just carrying them. The pills were identified as Clonazepam. The pills did not have a medication bottle and the woman said she didn't know anything about them. She was arrested for possession of a dangerous drug without a prescription and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail: $3,637.

— A 36-year-old woman was arrested Saturday, 9:42 p.m. in the 1700 block of North Carson Street for being an intoxicated pedestrian.
According to the arrest report, a deputy observed the woman walking at an angle from the east side of Carson Street to the west side of the street, obstructing the flow of traffic and not crossing in the crosswalk.

The woman was heavily intoxicated, unable to maintain her balance and had a strong odor of alcoholic beverage coming from her person. She provided a partial preliminary breath test of .288. She was taken to the hospital for medical evaluation. After she was cleared she was booked into jail without incident. Bail: $72.
