Carson City Fire Department called to gas leak on Carriage Crest

Carson City Fire Department responded Wednesday morning to Carriage Crest after a natural gas line was cut during construction digging.

At around 8:40 a.m. the fire department responded. Some nearby homes were briefly evacuated as firefighters prepared to clamp the main pipe exposing the leak. It was clamped at around 9:05 a.m. NV Energy has been contacted.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development Board approved 16 companies Thursday that will receive $46 million in tax abatements. In return these companies are required to create 1,432 jobs at an hourly wage of $31.83 in the next two years.

The annual Homeless Veterans Stand Down, scheduled for Friday, has been canceled due to COVID concerns. However homeless veterans will receive the care and support they have earned, according to the VA Sierra Nevada Health Care System.

Some of the best up and coming golfers from across the country will soon descend on the Dayton Valley Golf Course to begin their quest for a PGA tour card. The Dayton Valley Golf Course is hosting the first round of qualifying for the Korn Ferry tour, which is a developmental tour for the PGA.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada is currently taking registrations for all teens in Carson City. For $20 a month, teens will have access to a safe and fun place with staff that enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. CARSON CITY — Nevada leaders are excited to announce the U.S. Economic Development Administration is providing a $160,000 grant to the Nevada-based Great Basin Institute to establish the nation’s first-ever professional recreation trail building school in Ely, Nevada.

The next Carson City School District School Board meeting will take place Tuesday Sept. 28 beginning at 7 p.m. at the Robert "Bob" Crowell Board Room within the Carson City Community Center.

Items up for discussion at the school board include a restorative discipline plan, policy changes and the search for a new superintendent.

A 56-year-old Dayton man was arrested Wednesday for two warrants, one alleging sexual assault on a child under the age of 14, and the other alleging battery with intent to commit sexual assault, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

UPDATE 4:36PM: The Douglas County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday afternoon that the marijuana grow that was shut down Monday was the result of warrants that followed a lengthy investigation involving numerous Chinese nationals believed to be associated with organized crime.

On Monday, September 20, 2021 at approximately 4:13 p.m., Nevada Highway Patrol Troopers stopped a white 2005 Pontiac G6 sedan that matched the description from an armed robbery that was reported eight minutes earlier at Best Buy in Carson City.
