Living the Good Life celebrates one year anniversary

Event Date:
July 17, 2015 - 6:00pm

Living the Good Life Bistro and Lounge is marking their one year anniversary with an outdoor concert and BBQ featuring Toree McGee from ‘The Voice.’ This Friday, July 17, will be the first of their outdoor music events of the summer: good times at Living the Good Life are just getting started.

Owner and proprietress, Gina Rohrer has had a tray in her hand since she was 13; first at her father’s restaurants, then at Mo and Sluggo’s where she was recognized as one of ‘Carson’s Best’ waitresses. She took her skills to Glen Eagles, where she refined her customer service talents. Gina then teamed back up with her father at his Reno venture, the Polo Lounge, where she truly finished her apprenticeship.

Gina, feeling nostalgic, is proud to be following in her father’s footsteps. Longtime Carsonites may remember Frank Perez from Joe Garlic’s, the Italian Restaurant that occupied the St. Charles Hotel in the 1990s. One of his many past ventures was the Keystone Palo Alto near Stanford where he took a chance breaking musicians like Tom Petty, Blondie, Eddie Money, and Pablo Cruz. Perez has always had an eye for location and had already made a mental note of the former Scotty’s location when Gina approached him about venturing out on her own. He was positive that this would be the perfect spot for fulfilling her vision.

Living the Good Life more than a bar. It is a cozy bistro offering a new, expanded menu featuring garden fresh salads, pasta a ‘la Joe Garlic’s, seafood, pizzas, and their famous chicken tenders. Frank Perez, although retired from day to day operations, lends his sophistication and humor as dinner host. Top shelf alcohol and signature martinis, like the dessert-perfect Tiramisu martini, make it the perfect place to unwind. Take a seat at the 35 foot custom mahogany bar, or settle into one of their retro patent leather booths.

In addition to the upcoming outdoor music events, you’ll find live performers four nights a week, ranging in styles from jazz vocalist Lynne Colvig to DJ Bobby G of Alice 96.5 spinning the dance hits; Jimmy Mallet and Jack Clifton croon the classic songbook favorites and Mo’z Motley Blues gets the place hoppin’. Karaoke is a new addition to ‘the Good Life’ and you’ll find it there every other Tuesday. A bar menu and ‘Attitude Adjustment’ happy hour will be introduced in the fall.

Living the Good Life is a place that embraces the traditions of true Nevada hospitality and will most likely get you an embrace from Gina herself. It’s a friendly place, and Gina is a hugger.

Toree McGee was first seen on ‘The Voice.’ She has since recorded a CD in Nashville, and her single ‘Amen’ can be heard on the radio. Terry Tuohy, the band’s Carson City born and raised drummer, was the reason McGee chose the Good Life for her first Nevada concert, passing up opportunities at the Hard Rock and Gilly’s. Go here for more information on McGee.
