The Nevada Governor’s Office of Workforce Innovation officially re-launched LifeWorksNV, the statewide work-based learning hub for student career seekers looking for information and opportunities in registered apprenticeship, internships, career and technical education programs, career exploration and more.

Google announced Monday that it has launched new programs and commitments to help job seekers who have been impacted by COVID-19.

CARSON CITY — Carson High School Career and Technical Education, Future Health Professionals students, also known as HOSA, competed in the 2020 Virtual Nevada State Leadership Conference hosted April 15 through May 8. More than 1,000 students from across the state of Nevada competed in more than 40 medical competition events.

A new Salon has opened for the start of the new decade at the corner of 5th Street and S. Carson Street, across from the Ormsby House.

Owner Cindi Miller moved to Carson City twelve years ago, and always had her eyes set on becoming a Salon owner. Now, she’s opened Pure Platinum Salon and Spa, located at 501 S. Carson St.

Where does the time go? Everyone has heard this a thousand times, but people still need to be reminded of the question anyway because everyone, regardless of what they believe, needs to stop and take a moment to enjoy the moment.

Watching them gather, wearing pajamas, wrapped in blankets, and celebrating the beginning of their senior year, the Class of 2019-2020 gathered together at 6:00 a.m. Aug. 30 on the bleachers of the Carson High School football field to watch the sun rise; it is the beginning of their last year at CHS, and, for some of them, their last year as students who were raised within the Carson City School District, students who went from kindergarten at Mark Twain Elementary to Carson Middle School and have spent the last three years at CHS.

Set that alarm clock if the pituitary gland is not yet ready to do its job, because Monday arrives tomorrow and it is time yet again for students, parents, and even teachers to get out of bed early for the 2019-2020 school year.

Nevada Assemblyman Greg Smith, D-Sparks, was sworn in to office by Nevada Supreme Court Justice James Hardesty at the Legislative Building in Carson City on Wednesday.

Smith, 56, a retired union apprenticeship program administrator, was appointed to the vacant District 30 seat by Washoe County Commissioners after Assemblyman Mike Sprinkle resigned earlier this month following sexual harassment claims.

CARSON CITY — A total of 93 Career and Technical Education (CTE) and HOSA (Future Health Professionals) students competed in the Nevada State Leadership Conference held at the Rio in Las Vegas March 18-20.

There were a total of 74 students from Carson High School (CHS), 6 from Pioneer High School (PHS) and 13 from Carson Middle School (CMS). More than 1,000 students from across the state of Nevada competed in more than 40 medical competition events.

Sergio Trejo Jr., a Las Vegas native and first-generation college graduate, visited several Carson City schools recently to share his inspiring story about his admittance to medical school. Trejo presented to more than 150 students.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Governor’s Office of Workforce Innovation officially launched a statewide work-based learning hub, LifeWorksNV.org, for young adults in high school, post-secondary or out of school to find internships, apprenticeships, and on-the-job training.

In the upcoming midterm election Nevada voters will be faced a question of tax exemption. If adopted, Question 2 would create a state and local sales tax exemption for feminine hygiene products.

CARSON CITY — The Governor’s Office of Workforce Innovation announced Friday it has launched its Work-Based Learning and pilot Pay-For-Performance grant request for proposals. Eligible organizations are encouraged to apply for funding from $50,000 to $200,000.

Tesla announced an initial $1.5 million in funding grants at Thursday's Nevada Board of Education meeting. The grant is the first funds towards its agreement to contribute $37.5 million over five years to K-12 education in Nevada.

CARSON CITY — Nevada was recently awarded $968,595 ApprenticeshipUSA State Expansion in grant funds by the U.S. Department of Labor, Gov. Brian Sandoval announced Thursday.

Carson City JobConnect will host a Job Club kick-off event in June specific to local veterans. The day will include an Informational and networking meeting in the morning and afternoon job fair.

CARSON CITY — Members of the State Apprenticeship Council approved Tuesday the first cybersecurity program in the state. Several occupations across multiple in-demand sectors such as information technology and advanced manufacturing were also approved, including the first occupation in hospitality with MGM Resorts International.

CARSON CITY, Nev. – Charles Mann, agriscience educator at Carson High School, recently attended an 8-day professional development institute at the University of Nevada, Reno to teach the Introduction to Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources Curriculum for Agricultural Science Education (CASE) course in the CHS Career and Technical Education agriculture program during this school year.

Carson High School Career and Technology Education Health Occupation Student Association Future Health Professionals, a career and technical student organization, is sending 29 students to the HOSA International Leadership Conference in Orlando, Fla., June 20-25. The students will represent CHS, as well as the Carson City community and the state of Nevada in various medical competitions.

Gov. Brian Sandoval expressed his gratitude Thursday to the Nevada Legislature for responding to his requests as outlined in his State of the State address in January of this year.

Nevada Gov.
